Basically I see it as:

Mata to chelsea for 40m is bad business for Chelsea

A Straight swap between Mata and Rooney, is bad for United.

I could possibly see Mata to United now for 40m, and an agreement for Rooney to Chelsea in the summer, as that way it'll give United fire power for a CL spot. With Chelsea going in search for another AM now, and Rooney coming in the summer.

I hope I'm wrong any way.

In Lucho we trust!
I would loan him to Utd, with an agreement that they have to buy at the end of the season. Therefore you make sure that you don't have to play against him this year, but make UTD stronger against your rivals.

Untied and Chelsea don't play against each other this year though?.. they've played in the league twice already.

In what world is getting £40mil for a player you paid £23mil a bad deal? Chelsea made another large loss weeks ago and then spent £20mil on Matic. £40mil is a great deal for Chelsea

In a world where you'll be selling a world class player to a direct rival. And in that same move you'll be making your close rivals stronger again??

That's like saying, If Madrid sold Ozil to Barca, then it wouldn't be a bad move, and reason being is that Real would make a profit from it.

Madness, and so so basic.

Is Oscar, Willian, Hazard, Mata, Shurrle, better than Oscar, Willian, Hazard, Rooney, Shurrle? Plus Mata might want the move itself for playing time or WC chances, even if he wants the move out of the PL instead, it looks almost a guarantee now that Rooneys heading down south from Moyes press confrences.
What did he say??

would break my heart to seem him move to manchester united. ridiculous for a player of his quality to want to move to a rek train especially in a world cup year.

hope this is some sort of mourinho ride of passage, by saying no to man utd you prove your strong enough to start for mou.

Yes, because making money is clearly madness.

In all seriousness this isn't anything like a player crossing from Barcelona too Real Madrid. Chelsea sold Sturridge to a Rival team, Arsenal sold players to Rival plenty of times. If Chelsea don't want £40mil for a player who they don't play to a team they don't consider title challengers then more fool them

Making money isn't Chelsea priority, when has it ever been? If it was Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs, I'd agree.

Roman is in the top 30 richest people on the planet. He spends tens of millions every single summer, and now all of a sudden he wants to make a nice profit? That doesn't sound like the reasoning behind selling Mata to me.

As far as Sturridge goes, he was crap at chelsea, was never the main man, was never racking up top goal/assists stats. A player like Sturridge can be sold. A player like De Bruyne can be sold, a player like mikel might even be sold.

Not a Hazard, Mata, Oscar, D.Luiz class of player. That reeks of madness. and that's what my gut instinct tells me.

Would be hilarious if the deal gets canceled. Because well, the majority of the posters on redcafe are already celebrating it. Imagine the meltdown it would cause if PSG suddenly enter the picture.

Would be great for United but where would it leave Kagawa and Januzaj? Maybe play them both on the wing instead of Young and Valencia/Nani?
