Kaka

Madrid were very keen to sell, weren't they? But his contract demands exorbitant....

Yeah. I think there were several offers from clubs, including Milan. But he just didn't want to move because of his wage demands. His choice really..

Kaka at his best was brilliant obviously, however his best performances were mostly in the Champions League, he wasn't nearly as good in Serie A, i followed italian football a bit at that time as milan had so many big name players, however i was mostly disappointed when i saw kaka in league games. The most goals he ever scored in serie a was 16, he only scored 15 league goals in his last two seasons at milan and that includes taking all the penalties, so his decline had started before he went to madrid, his assists record in serie a is not all that impressive either. His prime years were so short lived that I cannot call him an all time great, however for 2/3 seasons he was brilliant in the CL. The fact that he had offers to join big clubs recently but turned them down in favour of sitting on the bench and collecting his wages suggests that his desire to play football is not there anymore..

From 2004 to 2007 he was magic and the best offensive midfielder in the world.

From 2008 onwards he has declined significantly that NOW he is just totally finished at the top level.

But Oh My Goodness from 04-07 he was simply magnificent.

Agree with this, he was excellent in the club which is where most saw him, but in the league he was just another player, even with the one league title he won, he wasn't one of the best players.

What has this to do with his skill? So annoying when people blame 1 player for not reaching something. Kaká was phenomenal at the time. Easily one of my favourite players playing for a different club.

He wasn't that skillful he just ran very fast in a straight line. you "blame" one player when individuals give him more credit than he deserves, and put him in a bracket of players that were more "skillful" and used that skill in a more consistent manner to help their team win.

Cafu, Roberto Carlos, Rivaldo & company say hello

All old school, recent (as in since 2000 ) Brazilians has more declines than rise
those were the exception to the rule.. the 80's generation (Zico , Socrates , Junior ) also left early to Brazil (exception was Falcao , Cerezo and later Careca, Romario and Aldair ) , Jorginho had a good time in Germany ..

with the small exception of Alves and Juninho.. look at the rest

Kaka, Fred (superman with the Lyon greatest team ) , Oliviera(Ricardo) ,Nilmar , Robinho , Ronaldinho , Adriano(had his psychological reasons but still opted to fuck up when given more than 4 chances since he left ) , Ronaldo (2005 onwards ) , Fabiano , Kierreson , the shorter Juninho (yes did great with Borough) still went back , Denilson, Pato etc

There both issues rapid decline and in many cases lack of adaption to Europe.. especially now that they move straight to big clubs unlike before

Argentina players tend to have more swift transition and longer continuity in comparison

I am sure that most countries could name a number of players that declined quite quickly or did not reach their peak.

Doubt it is anything unique to Brazil.

Calma, calma
His league performances were 'poor' because he served more of a tactical purpose than simply provide goals and assists. He was named Serie A Footballer of the Year twice, in 2004 and 2007, UEFA Best Midfielder in 2005 and a whole bunch of awards in 2007.

Kaka was my favorite player in the mid 2000s and I understand people who think he just dribbles in a straight line. But the truth is that there weren't any other more 'skilful' players who could do what he did. Besides, his passing and finishing were always great. His performance in the CL final of 2005 merited a win. The pass to Crespo for the 3rd goal was outstanding
