Kevin De Bruyne

De Bruyne, Verratti, Thiago and Bernardo Silva.

These are the 5 best midfielders in the world based on abilities.

De Jong can get there soon but need to deliver line breaking passes on a constant basis. No need to overhype him, he still need time to get on the same level as those four.
Verratti? Lmao. Modric is an extraterrestrial for him, and im not even praising him compared to some other mf's.

Yeah, Verratti. Based on stats by far the best midfielder in the world.

Remember the Liverpool press which killed all of our three midfielders at Camp Nou AND Anfield?

Verratti bypassed it himself.

When De Jong start to get these numbers we can consider him top three CM.
People have forgotten just how great Verratti and Thiago is, guess it’s because cules don’t watch that much football outside Barca

Thiago is overrated. He isn't as great as many make of him.

And btw, using one season stats as his overall career performance is far fetched.

I'd take present De Jong over present Thiago or Verratti. It's a no brainer for me.

I remember being very vocal on a local Spanish Barça forum, on social media and in person about the need to buy De Bruyne before Man City did it. We ended up buying Arda (LOL) and before that we were hopelessly chasing Pogba who was never moving that summer.

Similarly with the horrendous Coutinho transfer that I warned about in the summer of 2017 when the first serious rumors of us being interested in him emerged. On this very forum. Talked about Bernardo Silva being the much better fit.

I honestly would have done a better job than Robert and the lot back then. No offense. Many people would for that matter. The current lot are completely and utterly clueless about what it means to develop a coherent sporting project. They have proven that time and time again and the recent insane Neymar chase proved it for the 100th time if anyone was ever in doubt. Let alone the appointment and continuation (2 years and running) of Malmierda. Just one mediocre strategic decision after the other.

Just goes to show how superior Txiki was/is to our clueless lot and how oily Gulf Arabs with little clue about football, do better sporting and institutionally wise, just by appointing a few people that know what they are doing. Basically many of our old board members from the Laporta era like Txiki, Ferran Soriano, Rodolfo Borrell and the likes of Pep and Manuel Estiarte.

Sure, Man City had tons of money to burn but it is not like we had to sit on the sidelines and envy them on this front in recent years. We have done a far better job at actually throwing tons of money away on outright garbage that never improved the team. Currently holding the world record (Coutinho).

Verratti who was humiliated against a way past his prime iniesta when it mattered. No thanks, second tier mf, he is even beyond rakitic bracket.
Thiago is good but he is too injury prone, smh

Tragedy. What annoys me the most about coutinho saga, why in the fuck would you buy him for lw? Did we play any full game with cou in the middle? This board with retardo in charge is something else, las palmas level at most

Incredibly sad indeed. Especially us letting Bernardo Silva go pisses me off to this day. He was basically the next D. Silva. The one that got away from Pep (in his own words). Much like D. Silva, I cannot think of many players who would be better fits for us than Bernardo Silva. Obviously if things were normal at Barça, which they unfortunately have not been under this board for many seasons and with Malmierda at the helm, Bernardo Silva would be a Barça prototype player.

As for Coutinho, I wrote about it long before we bought him, but back then I argued that Coutinho would never be able to succeed Iniesta. Very different kind of player. It is a position on the pitch that he has never really played.

I honestly don't even think that Pep would have made Coutinho work in Iniesta's role. Although I do agree that Malmierda should have at least tried Coutinho in that position more often. Alas, it never really worked and the only thing that is left is to learn from that mistake and hope that the club can recoup some of the money wasted on him.

Totally agree Bernardo would be a better fit for us than KDB. Latin players always do better in Spain and Belgian players better in the EPL. It was so obvious that Silva was special at Monaco. But he looked like a mini Messi. Probably why we didn't go for him.

Got to be honest, didn't think he would be converted in to a hard working all round midfield player. But credit to Pep for that.

De bruyne would do well anywhere. He is a proper world class player. A special player. One of those players who always seems to make the right decision on the ball and rarely loses it and is so creative with it. Also a tough tackler. Best player in the premier league for me

What a fucking monster. 6 key passes and a assist in the first half. His through balls and passes to the forwards is insane

Wow. This guy is possibly the (second) best footballer in the world right now. Spectacular player.

When we lose in the knockout stage after an abysmal away game once again this season, I wouldn't mind City go all the way and win the CL. Pep has done a phenomenal job and this great team deserves a European trophy.
