Don't see the offside in the goal either. The offside player didn't touch the ball or obstruct the play/player.

It looked like a shit touch that the defender gets caught out on trying to stop more than a pass he is trying to block.

Nah. The Villareal player is hit by the ball.

The offside player shows intent to participate in the action. It's a clear offside. You don't have to touch the ball to be called offside. Just to show intent to take part in the action while offside. Which Vazquez did when he moved to get the ball. It's irrelevant if he touched it or not.

It's unfortunate, sure, but it's offside.

It looks like a shit touch and then defender hit by ball from it not trying to cut out any pass.

Could argue that Vasquez makes no difference there if that is the case.

I stand corrected , just looked up the rules.

A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is played or touched* by a team-mate is only penalised on becoming involved in active play by:

Rules said:
-interfering with play by playing or touching a ball passed or touched by a team-mate
-interfering with an opponent by:
preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent?s line of vision
challenging an opponent for the ball
clearly attempting to play a ball which is close when this action impacts on an opponent or
making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball

Whether Vazquez impacted the play is debatable but he definitely was challenging for the ball.

Yep. No doubt. When you are offside and you attack a ball you influence the action. It's irrelevant if you end up touching the ball or not. Vazuez should have stayed put and refused to join the action (like Messi did in Ansu's goal vs Celta Vigo), and then he is not activated in the play and his offside is not called. He did not do that but instead chose to get into the play. And thus his offside became sanctionable.

Challenging an opponent for the ball. That's exactly what Vazquez did. He moved for the ball to get it, but the other Madrid player got it first because he was closer.

He didnt prevent the opponent from playing the ball so that part of rule doesnt apply.

He challenged for the ball while offside. It's irrelevant if he got it or not. It's pretty clear. According to the rules, it's offside. It comes down to this: Vazquez chose to get himself involved in the action while being in an offside position. There's no way around that.

The only way this is not called is if Vazquez stays in his place and doesn't challenge for the ball. Then he is offside but uninvolved in the action, so he is not sanctioned.

villareal being just as naive as always in defense, against top teams. let's see if their attack can deliver something. madrid are nothing special.

No he didnt. He ran in direction of defender but had no influence on the defender at that point whatsoever.

Your reasoning in this subject is very flawed. Running in the direction of the ball to get it is textbook challenging for the ball. Nobody can know if the defender was bothered by it or not, since nobody is a mind-reader. Which is why you need to base your decision on actions. Vazuqez challenged for the ball while offside.
