Lionel Messi - v7

This idea on here that Messi would suddenly destroy Serie A is such crap. He’s not even scoring from open play against Ferencvaros or Dynamo Kiev’s B team at home ffs.

I’m not saying he’s finished but his issues are more about the poor quality of teammates around him, lack of rest, and maybe a lack of motivation rather than the opposition. If there was a team in Italy that played like Man City then fair enough, but going to a team like Inter wouldn’t solve anything for him. If anything, he’d probably do worse there than here.

I think a lot of Messi fans here don't understand that our play always has to go through him (he gets like double/triple amount of touches as other players ffs). Blaming it on the teammates isn't 100 % correct. Yes they're not the best, but at the same time he is expected to perform his usual magic. At some point the return on investment from having the entire team play for one player isn't enough. We are reaching that point. Whether it's due to motivation or he's truly declined is yet to be seen. If by January he is still the same, then serious questions need to be asked by the board.

this post is mental illness or i3 ventures.

Fanboyism is a mental illness

If by January he is still the same, then serious questions need to be asked by the board.

If we wait to see by January, League will be done and dusted.

It's really mental that a 33 year old player is playing 180 minutes every week. That also affects his performance. Ronaldo was being rested when he was 31-32 already.

What is mental is that he is allowed to do so by coach, board, and club, just because he WAS a legendary player.
Ronaldo might have wanted to play every game, but Zidane was forcing him to sit out and rest before CL knockouts.
Levels...

Difference in club culture is being shown here. Just classes above us in the way RM runs the ship. They learned their lesson from the Raul era to let go of players even if they're legends. They were a bit too ruthless at times, but I rather have that than being too nice.

After the debacle against AS Roma in the Champions League, Valverde asked Bartomeu to sell Su?rez. Bartomeu said 'no', because it would have made Messi angry. [betev?]

Of course.
All serious clubs have learnt that lesson.
A club cannot but be ruthless because the players themselves never realize their decline apart from very few cases (like Iniesta)

And not just any 33.5 year old.

This one has 900 professional games under his belt. Roughly 80,000 minutes of top level football. Even genetic freaks like Lebron have only lodged like 60,000 minutes in their sport. Different sports but still.

His legs are long gone but he can't seem to accept it and rest more.

The lack of intensity he plays with will only work in Serie A, I'm sure of it. LL and EPL is too fast for him now and he doesn't seem up for it. Sure, he might be motivated to play for Pep but how long can he keep it up for? They will need to completely change their tactics to accommodate Messi.

It's either two scenarios: He has totally declined and needs to play in Serie A, or he is just not motivated and wants another challenge.

If he's still in bad form by January then we should respectfully part ways. We are in danger of not even rebuilding properly+missing out on top 4.

I really dont buy the whole faster leagues thing. Most teams in most leagues play the same way nowadays which is a passing less direct game. The top clubs do this even more and is why you see more hectic games between lower table teams. If he does go to the premier league city is the perfect team and would certainly suit him more than the likes of inter milan who are more direct

I wonder how many "Barca fans" will be leaving next summer, just like some supposedly "Real Madrid fans" stopped following Real Madrid after Ronaldo left.

I genuinely don't want to see that impacting our brand power.

A lot, perhaps half of this forum will be gone. You can't really blame them though. Every top team has a portion of their fanbase only following the team because of a certain player. This is not a Barca thing, it's a sports thing.
