Lionel Messi - v7

Some people here suck Messi?s dick as much as CR fans sucking CR?s dick.

I am sick and tired of the Messi doesn?t deserve this shit team or club shit. We all agree he should leave.

Also, international fans? What?s wrong with them? Most people here, including you are international fans. International fans do care, and many of them are superbly knowledgeable, not less so than local Barca fans.

Well no shit, it's barcaforum not juveforum, realforum or manutdforum. People are going to be biased when praising our best player ever.

Main problem is that criticism often turned into abuse towards Messi. Which again, for a barcaforum is unacceptable.

I wasn't trying to diminish the love/support international fans have for the club. But it usually happens that locals are more appreciative of legends of a club and don't hurl abuse 24/7 towards players.

Lol, abuse at Messi? All the criticism is football related: lack of work rate, poor finishing, lack of discipline, using his power in the team to combine managers, pretty well-documented stuff.

The only problem people have with Messi is that he's blocking an urgent rebuild.

I don't think this is the time for "local fans at least understand better..." narrative when they failed to take action when the rot was evident even 4 years ago. Being too faithful to legends and just veterans in general even after they're way past their utility date at the highest level is what led us to this hole we're currently under.

On the contrary even. Local fans are even more susceptible to make idols out of these legends and not realize when it's the time to move on.

The local fans and socis might also be slower to react to things like the wrongs done by Bartomeu and his reign and they were the ones who would not relent that Messi should be allowed to leave. I remember that some used to mock the #ValverdeOUT hashtag on Twitter as something being pushed by some plastic international fans who know nothing about Bar?a.

Yea, well documented. Like the stuff the TECHNICAL DIRECTOR at the time spoke about. And the former manager who confirmed all of that. Doesn't get any more official sources than that mate.

I get your point @serghei but the problem is we have no money, no in house talents and our stadium is fucking horrible. This mess can't be solved in the short term so results like today's could repeat in the next few years.

Regarding our legends. People are not only criticizing them, they are bashing them. There is a difference between "Messi had a horrible game and plays like shit recently" vs "Messi is nowhere near CR7, he doesn't give a fuck about this club, he doesn't know how to play without without Xavi and Iniesta and can't do shit in CL". First one is an example of criticism but second one is an insulting comment that a Barca fan shouldn't be saying.

There is certainly a bias among Catalan fans for the Canterano players. I think it was much easier to offload the 2006 CL team than the current team due to so many of them not being homegrown. The Pep and Lucho teams are a symbol of pride for the city.

True true. Football is competitive sport and at some point you have to cut your vets, even if they won it all 30 times. When they are done, they have to be cut. It sounds brutal but it's also part of sports. The best players should play. Not the best names on paper.

I didn't say locals are more knowledgeable. Just that they usually have a higher degree of sentimentality towards club/players.

With Valverde we got titles. Those count more for locals than CLs. Think it's normal for them to see it differently.

Can you find a quote of anyone on here claiming below?

"Messi is nowhere near CR7, he doesn't give a fuck about this club, he doesn't know how to play without without Xavi and Iniesta and can't do shit in CL"

It is more the case that these strawman arguments get put forward whenever any criticism at all of Messi is made and folk cant handle it.

No, it can't be sorted in short term. That ship has sailed years ago. Probably should have acted decisively and made 1-2 big moves in Lucho's last season. Busi hasn't been at a top level since 2015. It shouldn't fucking take 5 years to move an underperforming player.

All the real Barca fans here need to buckle up for some years of problems and turmoil. Which is fine really.

Being sentimental towards old players is a weakness for the club not a strength.

Why would being sentimental be a positive?

Other European giants have far surpassed us by being ruthless and offloading their legends when they needed to. Even being a step too slow means the difference between a title and no title. Margins are that slim at the top level.
