Lionel Messi - v7

No, it can't be sorted in short term. That ship has sailed years ago. Probably should have acted decisively and made 1-2 big moves in Lucho's last season. Busi hasn't been at a top level since 2015. It shouldn't fucking take 5 years to move an underperforming player.

All the real Barca fans here need to buckle up for some years of problems and turmoil. Which is fine really.

True. We should have made at least few changes after Luchos last season. It wasn't just Lucho, the players motivation started dropping and quality too.

Kudo on the last sentence. And translate the support into actions such as subscribing to Barca + and buying more merchandise and going to Camp Nou if possible to watch games.

Being sentimental towards old players is a weakness for the club not a strength.

Why would being sentimental be a positive?

Where did I say it was a positive or negative?

The whole discussion began with SmilerBam being horrified by what some people write in here about Messi.

I replied that this is an international forum, full of kids. I find it normal for the two categories to be inclined towards hurling Internet abuse at Bar?a's greatest player. Then I've explained why the local fans feel differently.

Next to reply with a question gets punched in the face
I'll have to start drawing to explain myself

There is certainly a bias among Catalan fans for the Canterano players. I think it was much easier to offload the 2006 CL team than the current team due to so many of them not being homegrown. The Pep and Lucho teams are a symbol of pride for the city.

Offloading them is acknowledgement of looking towards the future rather than getting stuck in the past. Because the past will never return. Messi isn't going to be pre-2017 Messi magically if at all. Barca won't be the 2009, 2011, and 2015 teams at all. I hope the new club president points that out.

Can you find a quote of anyone on here claiming below?

"Messi is nowhere near CR7, he doesn't give a fuck about this club, he doesn't know how to play without without Xavi and Iniesta and can't do shit in CL"

It is more the case that these strawman arguments get put forward whenever any criticism at all of Messi is made and folk cant handle it.

Are you really claiming folks here weren't saying things like that? I won't lose my time searching for those comments but the truth is people are shitting all over Messi for over a year now. He was also guilty because Valverde wasn't fired after Anfield, he was guilty for not stepping up against Barto and when he did he was again guilty for wanting to leave. He was guilty for protecting Suarez and Vidal. He is guilty because he is an introvert. Come on be fair! People were expecting from him to save Barca and now he is the reason why Barca is falling apart?! Some people like BBZ go so far that they are claiming our wins against Dynamo Kyiv and Ferencvaros would be achieved with Messi in the team.

Should he go? He absolutely should! But let's be fair here, he is the sole reason we won anything during the last 5 seasons.

Messi does receive criticism from Spanish supporters in Spain. Can see it on twitter a fair bit.

It is a negative if the locals are sentimental about players to extent club are influenced by it but I dont think they are as sentimental as you make out anyway.

Players like Muller were hailed as better then Messi in here. I think JamDav said that. Go figure

Yes I am claiming folk are not saying that.

Quote them or it is just strawman made up quote.

You wont quote them though as not there.

No doubt. And we need to quickly get the manager that will be in charge of rebuilding. Plus draw the plan regarding the style we will try to play. Because a good part of rebuilding is not only transfers and player names. A good part of rebuilding a successful team is trying to play every week the same. Repetition and routine is how you create a top team. Going at it each week with the same purpose will make you better if you have the right pieces on the board (president, technical director, manager, players).

Get the manager and the supporting staff right. It's key. Otherwise you're going to enter a resetting pattern, every 2 years new players and new managers, and the rebuilding never gets going really. Exactly the problem of United. After 7 years of rebuilding, only recently they started to get somewhere. Because they were undecided where to go and what to do.

Messi defended Valverde after the loss. That was too much. No coach should survive two straight humiliations like 3-0 Rome and 4-0 Liverpool. Simply unacceptable losses.

I really don't have time for that man. It's the truth and you know it.

And what should player do? Openly attack the manager? Imagine if he did that? Than he would be responsible for firing team's manager. You don't get it. He is always the guilty party. You should rather remember how he destroyed Lpool alone in that first game but Dumbele couldn't score from 5 meters.

I said Muller was better across last season and Bayern would not swap him in their team for Messi. Same for likes of KDB while you were spouting off about Messi being 'best in world'.

Not a great debate for you to revisit.

I'll cry myself to sleep, only to dream about your bullshit about Muller being better than Messi
