Lionel Messi - v7

Sad he has to play with this dross in his final years.

I don't get this sympathy for Messi. Barcelona has been fucking up on transfer decisions on a regular basis since pep left. The boards horrible squad management was destined to come into fruition once the golden generation sizzled out. People have been calling this for years, the disaster was inevitable.

It's Messi who decided to stay at Barcelona when the writing was on the wall. Why should you feel sympathy for him? If he cared about the teams football as much as he pretends to, he wouldn't have supported valverde. Also he gets compensated for about 100m a year so whatever. It's his fault his "prime years" were wasted.

Still love the guy and he's absolutely great in every game, just wish he would use his status to get managers sacked more often.

+1... of course I want to see him succeed and keep bringing us trophies, but he played an instrumental role in ensuring he, himself, doesn't win all that he could

Contrary to what folk think on here Messi does not run or own the club. The idiots that run the club and who have wasted hundreds of millions of euros on trash are the ones to blame here.
For any supposed fans to come on and criticise Messi for any of this is just madness , the club over the last decade would have won absolutely nothing without him.

Your history or contribution doesn't mean you should be free from criticism. What you're advocating is blind retarded logic.
Secondly Messi has substantial pull and weight but ultimately the decision does come down to the board. Him backing valverde gave the board enough leverage to keep that fraud of a manager...

Its not just history , he is still easily the best player in the side now. Criticism of him is just a joke as hes easily still the most consistent player we have. The backing of the manager is media hype , no one on here knows what goes on behind closed doors and they never will , but they believe everything they read.
Folk like you will realise how bad this side are when he stops playing.
The board and this joke of a manager are the problem here , not the greatest player the game has ever seen.

Your reply just proves my point, You're advocating that he should be blame free because of his status. That's just adburd. Lol.

Secondly messi has clearly backed him without a doubt, you just have to look at his responses to similar questions about lucho.
Thirdly why does someone's infield performance make them exempt from their actions and decision off the field?

As a player Messi is indisputable GOAT but as a captain he is a pure garbage. Unfortunately that's a fact. He should have never been named a captain. It's a huge burden for him that he is incapable of caring. He is an introverted person and a wise manager would never request from him to lead a team as a captain. He for sure doesn't even feel comfortable in that role.

I'm not even here to list his qualities (it would be ridiculous), but summarizing quickly, it's more than enough to say that he's considered by many the best ever (or at least among the best 3 ever with Pele and Maradona) ....
Of course he's not a god..... so obviously he's got some flaws (so for some it's easier to understand that it is not a god or an alien, even without doing a DNA test), for exemple is not a veritale leader, or he doesn't ask to sack the manager, or he does not run 10km per game, or even he can't menage, on its own, to solve every single match with his genius !(what a outrage !!)

But I have to say, all thing considered, it may seem strange (sorry) but I have absolutely nothing to reproach him for. And not only that, I'm glad that he didn't leave but he stayed with us, because with other coaches and with a serious and professional board, he would have won the Ballon d'Or every year.

I don't really care about Leo's off the field choices to be honest. It would have been great if he and the team would advocate against Valverde at the end of last season, but it is simply not his style. I haven't seen any other former Barca legend (captain material or not) saying anything not politically correct about EV. That's how public figures express themselves I guess. And make no mistake, if Leo would criticise EV, so would all the other players and they other way around. It would be a collective decision. As it was, to not criticise him. So, singling out one man, is not so honest and seems emotionally driven.

About the game, he looked sharp, agile and motivated, but was unlucky to not score. I also get the feeling he gets frustrated by our buildup (non existent) tactics, then he drops deep so we can advance the ball even a little bit. Because if anyone noticed, without Messi dropping we simply can't..

He has immense power at the club. If he wants Shitverde gone it would be done asap. His problem is off the pitch he's too shy and doesn't want to make waves.

A big club like Barça needs big personalities in all the leadership positions. Messi simply isn't a big personality.

That last paragraph is complete garbage , there is not a big personality player on the planet that could have done anywhere near close to ehat Messi has done for Barca

Its ridiculous to think its up to him to get the coach fired, thats the boards job.

Plus if he spoke out publicly against the coach a whole other type of shitstorm would start.

It's not Messi's job to get the coach fired - agree.

That he backed Valverde only because he's shy - disagree.

It's clear by Messi's constant Valverde backing and the boards decision that Messi wants Valverde to stay - and the comfortable 'training' sessions and constant pandering to the seniors by a puppet manager is what the seniors want.

Let's not mix things up here. Sure, it's not his job, but let's not pretend he doesn't want things the way they are.

This and also the fact that our players have forgotten what great management is about. They feel everything is up to them.
