Lionel Messi - v7

If he doesn't allow a free kick between the legs and then drop to histrionics, he isn't trying IMO.

:crbust:

let's see if he can at least offer an assist like CR, and run like he wants to win, rather than walk around and look defeated before the first whistle ...

It really is concerning how much you stan for CR7 while getting your jibes in against Messi even before the game.

For the record, you can be a CR7 all you want. Just don't do it undercover and be upfront about it.

And you play favorites because if your metric for liking players is winning, then you shouldn't be supporting serial loser Ibra like you do. That guy has done absolutely nothing in CL over 20 years.

He needs to strike while the iron is hot. Considering how Ronaldo got humiliated yesterday, if Messi puts up a great showing and score 2-3 goals, he'll undo years of propaganda against him of not being 'clutch' whereas Ronaldo has been. Messi is a creature of mood, but when he's really cranking it up not many can stand in his way. Just hope the team comes out in high spirits with a winning mentality, Messi unfortunately down tools when he's not feeling that pulse in the team. They have nothing to lose anyway. Couple of goals in the first half and PSG will falter.

i am upfront about it, as you can tell, and anyone who reads my posts can tell. my view is that CR has been a more decisive player in key CL matches than messi, and his goalscoring record at the KO stage, which messi will never match or surpass, proves that.

also what? yeah i like ibra. but ive never claimed hes a world beater or anything. not sure how thats even related.

i mean, i hope that's the case. i am a barca fan after all, and i want our club to win.

NOTHING would make me happier than see messi absolutely TEAR it up in the CL like he used to do 7 years ago. i will HAPPILY concede that i am wrong if he does so.

I'm just saying that it's internal inconsistency given your metric for judging players is based on how decisive they are in CL stages. See line above in your post.

And lol, wasn't it like 1 month ago where Ibra was scoring goals in bum Serie A that you were pushing that he's better than Messi at 38 or something. I should pull up the receipts.

Would not be surprising in the least. Messi doesn't come across as either fair or logical in his decisions. I personally wouldn't trust him at anything outside the football field. As a footballer, he is amongst the finest ever, but outside of that?... don't see much quality worthy to be admired or revered honestly.

If Laporta panders to that side of Messi, I think he's starting this monumental task or rebuilding the club on the wrong foot.

What are you basing that on? He seems like a normal man to me, and I have never heard a bad word from anyone who knows him.

As for Aquero, if Messi had the choice of Haaland or Aguero he would take Haaland in a heartbeat. If Barca can't afford Haaland as many on here say, what other options do they have right now? I don't want Aguero either but if it for a season or two to tide us over then it is not a disaster, he is still a top player.

If the club can't afford Haaland or Mbappe or that type of player then they have to get creative and Aguero is not a bad choice but maybe a bit underwhelming but it is just paper talk for now.

well, if you recall, messi had a very slow start to the season, and it wasnt until fairly recently that he started scoring consistently. on the other hand ibra had a very good start to the season; so yes, at the time, Ibra was playing better. things change. nothing mysterious or inconsistent about it.

suppose by that date x player a has 10 goals and 5 assists and player b has 1 goal and 2 assists. itd be hard to argue player b was, up to date x, better than player a. thats all it was.

winning certainly matters, but noone thinks Ibra is the best in the world, never mind the GOAT, so i dont hold him to very high standards. CR and messi are called the best, so it is more important in their case to deliver at the CL level. again, i dont think thats crazy. what's crazy about that?

It was just weird how you didn't give Messi the benefit of the doubt that he'd pick up his scoring form (not compared to his prime obviously) when he's won us 10 LL and scored 700+ goals. Yet are very willing to give CR7 the benefit of the doubt. Curious.

principally because messi has been very dependable in the league but not in the CL in half a decade when things get tough; in that same period CR won 3 consecutive CLs bagging doubles and hattricks against bayern, juve, atleti, etc, in finals and semi finals. i have long said that messi is the GOAT league player but not the GOAT CL player.

One would think the period of 2008-2015 never existed where Messi was dropping doubles on the likes of Bayern and RM (with a CR7 lol...) and scoring/having fun in CL finals v United...with a CR7 lol.

You just can't help yourself from exaggerating in favor of CR7. That has been my problem all along.

I really want to know why in 5 key CL games (4 CL semi final games and 1 CL final), prime CR7 (he had already won the Ballon D'Or) had 0 goals and 0 assists v Barcelona, and actually missed a penalty. It's like it doesn't matter how good you are when the other team is just more dominant. Maybe the same benefit of the doubt should be given to Messi in some games as well?

For example, Roma and AM 15/16 was inexcusable. But Bayern 19/20...come on we had 0 chances. Even PSG 20/21.

Making this post again , just for you :

CR goals with a world class team crossing and passing every ball to him in the box and having best midfield in the world in CL :

2017/18: Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) 15

2016/17: Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) 12

2015/16: Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) 16

200.gif

Allmighty CR who won all these CL on his own for RM went to Juventus for a new challenge to bring glory to them , taking all the newslines how his body is of a 23 year old , that he'll break all the records for Juventus managing to do :

CL :

2018/19 : Cristiano Ronaldo 6

2019/20 : Cristiano Ronaldo 4

2020/21 : Cristiano Ronaldo 4

He's managed to score less goals in 3 CL editions then in his last with RM . Got thrown out by Ajax , Lyon , Porto.

Gets outscored in Italy in his first season by Quagliarella , Zapata , Piatek , ending on 4th spot ( fucking LMAO ).

Gets outscored in Italy in his second season by Immobile.

Why isn't the best CL player ever scoring at the same consistency ? Why does he only have 14 goals in last 3 CL editions with Juve ? How come you're still sucking him off even after when he got exposed ?
