I just realised, If we pay Messi for 5 years and he fecks off to Miami in 2 years, doesn't it mean he will avoid the high taxes in Spain after 2 years? Wouldn't Barcelona save alot of taxes in the last 3 years ?

I'm starting to think we should settle with a one-year contract extension And have him leave the club with a proper send off at 35 years old Next summer.

With the Qatar World cup breaking next season in half, his first half of the season will be focused in preparation for that tournament and his final shot at success where he is close to a prime level.

While his second half will depend on how his WC went.

Let him focus on this coming season, then move to MLS in summer where he can focus on his preparations for the Qatar World cup.

What do you think?

I say renew him for four years at Barca just to see some guys explode with anger :coffee:

Alfredo Martinez claims a lot of our sponsorship deals have clauses involving Messi lol. They can supposedly re-neg(more likely if true) or back out I suppose if Messi doesn't play for Barca anymore.

The WC will be in the middle of 22/23 season, not 21/22. So it would need to be a 2 year contract in your scenario.

Yeah. He stays 1 year and leaves Summer of 2022. So one year contract.

That summer he can sign with Miami, play some kick ball and focus his energy for the World Cup a few months later.

Stunning, this club is finished

This is after we had to reduce it from like 400-500m to 347m last season when COVID fully hit us.

People that think we'd be able to afford some quality signings if we move on from Messi are clueless. We're fucked anyway. Unless we manage to get rid of Umtiti, Coutinho, Griezmann, Pjanic's wages and reduce the wages of other high earners, or even move on from someone like Jordi Alba.

That's how we can register our new signings + Messi.

Wtf are Laliga doing

Ruling is archaic af. Barcelona and Madrid (and Atl) are able to attract short, medium, longterm investment and low interest loans precisely because they can close to guarantee high turnover in normal market conditions.

It's ridiculous that rules made in pre-covid times can not adapt to the current world crisis. A similar way that multinational and tech unicorns can run at a loss short term, secure loans and investment, to function long term.

We have already secured a huge loan to blow the club over short term, this should be taken into consideration for what the club can manage as salary restructuring this summer.

In football the players are the key assets, you can't have the league deciding what is the best course of management for these assets for the clubs. Not when there exist income generating competitions outside of LaLiga.

Yes it's true. This video explains it.

There's a reason why Barto didn't let Messi go last season and why the club is scrambling to offer him a new contract.

If Messi stays, the amount of players we would have to offload would make it a far worse squad than even the last two seasons. Some project dawg

At this point, all the talk about finances and rules just feels like PR spin from Laporta for when Messi leaves. He can say “Hey, I convinced Messi to stay but big bad Tebas and rules stopped it so get angry at them not me. “

Messi wants a competitive team and Barca doesnt offer one, so it is clear that he is leaving imo. Expect the stories of him leaving to pick up once Copa ends.

Yeah. If Messi decides to stay after all the cuts we're seeing (not that we were that strong before them), then he doesn't care about the project at all.

depends on how much revenue Messi generates for Barcelona. The Messi brand is a money machine fantastically lucrative as the brand Messi-Barcelona.

many follow this team to see messi play. no other player in our squad is even close to half of the attention messi generates.

even in covid times he is the guy that sells the most for fc barcelona. he's also a club icon that ties in well with the la masia philosophy and all that. not just a mercenary we bought for a staggering amount and has no affiliation with the club.

is 60M the right amount? sure it seems too big, but i'm sure laporta has done the math.

The squad should be better even if there are a lot that leave.

Shouldnt be far worse at all.
