Lionel Messi - v7

We wouldn't even be a top 10 team in CL with that squad. We'd be barely above Sevilla/Atalanta level at best.

That would leave us with:

GK: ter Stegen, Pena
Defenders: Pique, Araujo, Mingueza, Garcia; Alba, Dest, Emerson
Midfielders: FdJ, Pedri, Busquets, Puig, Moriba, Collado
Attackers: Aguero, Fati, Depay, Messi

That's a weak-ass squad. These players we ousted may not be great, but are overall better than many left. Griezman >> Aguero & Depay, even though I'm not a fan. Dembele's got some pace. Not an ounce of pace in this attack. Lenglet isn't perfect, yet he started for us and there's a reason. Etc.

I agree... Griezmann, Dembele and Lenglet (and maybe even Roberto) offer depth, which is why I put them as questionmarks. The rest doesn't though. And I can't bring myself to hope we keep the mentioned 3, they are downright terrible. If it's them or Messi the choice is clear (for me).

The way I see it we will have a good starting 11 and a bunch of youth players+Aguero. That's the dream, no? At least there's something romantic about depending on La Masia.

Update:
GK: ter Stegen, Pena
Defenders: Pique, Araujo, Mingueza, Lenglet, Garcia; Alba, Dest, Emerson
Midfielders: FdJ, Pedri, Busquets, Puig, Moriba, Nico
Attackers: Collado, Aguero, Fati, Depay, Messi+1 of Griezmann/Dembele

That would be my preference.

That squad would also be my preference as well.

For me, the +1 would be Griezmann.

You have not understood the severity of the problem.
The sporting level is no longer debated. We are at the point where we have to fire players, lower salaries, not spend money on transfers, so that the club can be economically viable in the future, 5 years from now.
And it does not matter if it is Messi, Griezmann, Matheus, Ansu or Pedri. If we do not solve the economy of the club there is nothing to do.

The sports level right now is secondary. Wake up.

Seem we can't even fire players. Even, Matheus lawyer is trying to file lawsuit against us for terminating his contract.

What a fxxking masterpiece from Bartomeu. I hope he rot in jail.

I know this won't happen, but hypothetically, if we just sold everyone older than 25 + Dembele (excluding new signings), what would be the starting 11?

Tenas/Pena - Dest, Garcia, Araujo, Emerson - De Jong, Pedri, Puig/Nico/Ilaix/Collado - Depay - Ansu, Aguero

Barca B kids on the bench.

Top 4 finish title here we go.

That would have been a cool FM save for 4-5 years though - only free transfers allowed & promoting players from the youth setup.

that team struggles to finish top 10

that team struggles to finish top 10

It finishes top 5 without major injuries (and if Ansu is not finished as a player). The quality gap between Sevilla and the rest is too big. Top 4 is where it gets much harder. Obviously there is almost no depth so La Liga would be priority.

This is a double-edged sword. If Messi stays, the team is weak, and he won't win anything for the remainder of his (High level) career. As for financials for teh club, it only extends for two more years before they are at the same exact situtation. I guess they want extra time to come back from the COVID situation, although if the team isn't winning big trophies, then less people will check in to see the team, and only be there for Messi at big matches.

If he goes, then Barca as a club will be very weak. Will be a tough time to be a REAL fan. And not just the club will suffer, but La Liga as a whole as it falls further into irrelevance as more and more players opt to go to the spotlight of the PL, even Serie A might see a rebirth to take the spot as one of the top leagues.

It's all up to Messi at the end of the day

I think he wants to stay and the club wants him to stay, but we can't get his wage within the framework of the wage bill limit imposed by La Liga. So it might not be up to him after all at the end of the day.

You're welcome
I still think Messi is completely focused on Copa and will consider options once it ended. Ultimately he will stay, but negotiations won't make much progress during Copa.
