Lionel Messi - v7

Slept over this but I'm still kinda numb to it. Obviously this was coming since the Anfield game. And many factors are to blame from past and current managers to former and current presidents, even Messi himself. This departure makes him look greedy, if the "he wanted to stay" statement by Laporta is true.

Anyway the news is heartbreaking, the damage is done, we move on. Hope this whole thing is for the good of the club. The beginning of a new era at the club without the Messidependencia.

Unpopular opinion, but Messi was a non factor for a several years in a CL and lately even in El Classicos and bigger La Liga games.

Majority of his goals are coming from matches against midtable and bottom table clubs.

Ronaldinho was fat but it is not as if Messi is deciding titles anymore.
It's cruel, but it is truth.

First of all that's just not true, just remember his banger against PSG last season.

But EVEN if we entertain your false depiction as reality for a second, you underestimate just how important those goals against midtable clubs are across the length of a season. That's what wins you league titles.

He s still better ten fold than everyone in our squad. It's cruel, but it is the truth.

It's usually down to squad quality when an obvious world class player doesn't perform in big games. See Suarez (for Liverpool), Ronaldo, Kane ...

No, he likely knew we were off because we were skirting the line for a long time, but he expected La Liga to budge which every other major league in Europe has done. But La Liga wants the TV rights deal to go through so they won't budge, they want to force Barca's hand by saying ''we are not moving the line one inch, but you can sign Messi if you accept the deal''. So Laporta has a choice, sign the deal and sign Messi but give up a huge amount of revenue for up to 50 years, or let go of Messi. La Liga expected him to take the first option (Bartomeu probably would have), but Laporta won't take that kind of bad deal for the club.

so they knew about it and just let the decision in the hands of la liga. sounds to me you are accepting that laporta wanted to get rid and wash his hands of all blame.

it's not as if he hadn't done this cleanup job before. messi was standing in the way.

Ah, the obligatory cognitive dissonance.

Because Messi is still the best in the world at 34. Ronaldinho was washed up at 28, Rivaldo was no longer as good as he was (plus Van Gaal) and Cruyff failed to win anything over two seasons.

Actually Rivaldo was still very good when he left. And he was the best player in 2002 WC no doubt. One of the GOATs and our GOATs.

Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Messi, We will fnd another star to replace him, Fati or Halaand or whoever with balls big enough to replace the GOAT.

Omg, he scored one goal against big teams?

you underestimate just how important those goals against midtable clubs are across the length of a season. That's what wins you league titles.

But we aren't winning them, aren't we?
This would have been the 7th season without CLs and the 3rd without La Liga.

You need to ask some questions then:
1. is it THAT worthy to keep him forever?
2. is he still making the advantage?
3. are his wages worth it?
4. we can't start a new era as long as he is here, so again, is it worth it if we are not winning titles and not improving team/other players who always need to pass to Messi?

But:
1. if Messi can't do it alone (let's say that it is true)
2. and if we can't improve our squad to help to Messi?
================================
= is it worth it to keep him then?
He can't do it alone, we don't have money for better players yet other players are stagnating while Messi is here and while all balls are passed to him.

All in all, you have to turn the page one day.

Don't agree with you BBZ, but also don't have the energy to argue why not.

All I'll say that if Barca have a chance to win the CL, even a small chance, that dies without Messi.

Popupar oppinion: Messi gonna win his 7th Ballon dor at 34 while Ronaldinho at 28 was washed up and returned to Brazil at 30.

It's cruel but it is truth.

They knew it would be a challenge from the start. The club knew they would have to negotiate with both Messi and then La Liga. They were confident they could negotiate successfully with both, but they failed in this case. It happens. I refuse to believe Laporta is some evil mastermind that wants to get rid of Messi, who supported him becoming president and has by everything we know, an excellent relationship with him. So unless Laporta is secretly a sociopathic villain, I just think this is the case of trying but failing to negotiate with La Liga (who are being unreasonably stubborn tbf).
