Lionel Messi - v7

I agree, he has played his part along with the older players such as Pique and Busquets but this is my point on getting a manager such as a Klopp/Pep who are the leaders and will control the egos or ship them out. For too long Barca have had these B/C class managers, the club deserves the top talent managers and to be honest they are the only ones that can stand up to the ego of the players mentioned.

Tough love needed on the team, only a strong manager perform that on players with such illustrious careers.

My choice is Pep, do everything possible to get him back.

Likes of Klopp and Pep and any other top coach would not touch the Barca job until those old players are gone if at all.

Barca are ending up with the coaches who are willing to touch the job and have less to lose.

There is no flexibility in the squad to play the way they want to and fitting an untouchable Messi into their style of tactics is not nearly as appealing as some seem to think.

Its a sad state of affairs right now, any team with speed in wide areas or up front look like they could create a chance with a single pass into space behind the last line. I genuinely fear catching Bayern/City on the wrong night in the CL could end up being a bashing for us. We could always out gun teams before but those days are gone, now we look like a decent draw for other elite teams.

My frustration is that huge money has still been spent over the last 3/4 seasons but the buys have been terrible. Started again already this summer with Arthur/Pjanic deal.

The board need to go for sure.

There have been reports that he will resign for 2 more years after that with the option to quit after each season.

I don't get it, he's by far the best player that i've seen in my 30 years of watching football, why not enjoy him for a few more years while you can after that mediocrity awaits this club again.

Once he leaves bar?a the club will probably loose a lot of its standing and commercial appeal.

The last part will most likely be true but we have to start the rebuild somewhere, somehow.

I enjoy Messi's play as much as the next guy but his presence (along with his friends' and his fellow senior players' presence) seem to be hindering the progress and the rebuild of this club. Messi and his friends run the dressing room and dictate the show, as it appears, despite him denying it.

Once he leaves there will be droves of Messi's fans leaving us for sure. But we will endure and survive if we plan smartly.

The club will have money to pad another superstar, but I agree Barca will actually struggle. There will be no Messi magic to bail the team out. SO thing will be a bit more chaotic

Our current level as a team would be really exposed if Messi left - a.k.a. middtable team at this point.

The part about hindering the rebuild.. I get the idea and if a rebuilding project was underway by the board (even as a remote possibility), I would partly agree. But no such project seems anywhere near, or it would have started a couple of years ago. It is already too late for us to rebuild and keep our competitive level, whatever that is now. A few players should have been phased out by now, younger replacements, instead of entitled divas, should have been brought on and the fans should have lower expectations. None of that is true. So, the initial idea about Messi hindering the rebuild, is not so true after all.

We can't and won't start a rebuild until he and his friends are here. We've bought some players who could be a part of the post-Messi team though. Hopefully their careers won't be ruined before the amigos are gone.

I'll be honest. He is a moron. From defending EV from those 2 humilations that it was the players fault only to the Abidal saga to this, as a person, he is a moron.

Football under Ev was the worst we ever played in recent times and he kept backing him up because he was giving him an easier time. I don't care what the fans say, he's a fucking idiot.

I've had the same sentiment for a while. Whenever I see other users talking about a rebuild they seem to have the idea we can get rid of every amigo but Messi. It's a romantic vision, but not remotely realistic. No new project can be started here while Leo is still here; he simply has too much sway on and off the pitch.

The summer of '22 would be a good time for him to go. He'd be 35 at that point and I don't reckon carrying his massive wages and centring our entire attack around him still at that age would be worth it. We're already having massive issues with his positioning, defensive contribution and the imbalances he causes us in all phases of play. The juice won't be worth the squeeze in a couple years.

I think he'll stay until the next world cup and then leave. But it all depends on his family who are very comfortable where they are, moving 3 young children to Argentina isn't the best move. Also depends on what Ronaldo is still doing. Yes Messi lives rent free in Ronaldo's head but it would be foolish to assume Messi doesn't at least think about their rivalry. Ronaldo will play in europe until he's unable to physically run anymore just so he can claim he won more league titles etc.

The rebuild was attempted we just bought players who didn't quite cut it. There's also the fact that the amigos level of football isn't necessarily bad. Alba and Pique had great seasons last year except Anfield. Busquets is our most creative passer and always available to our defenders. Suarez still scores plenty of goals. It would be harder than we think to just tell these guys to fuck off and not just because of their status.

Simply put, he is our Captain. As a captain you should be the role model for the entire team, he isn?t. You show your manager respect and show the staff some respect as well just like the other players are doing. Who do you think you are? In few years you will be history, nothing. At any moment you might die .. Messi needs to do some self reflection

In his field Messi is the equivalent of a 6 times nobel prize winner. Setien and his staff are the equivalent of village high school teachers. Even a nobody like Arthur let's us know (through his mother) that Setien is a bum. Which is ironic in itself considering how the lads in here were oh so convinced that Valverde is holding baby Xavi back, now Setien is the one who lets Arthur go as he did not "match expectations". So if nobody Arthur is already appaled by Setien's words, no wonder Messi doesn't take any shit from his rabid assistant.
