Lionel Messi - v7

Transfermarkt has always been more lenient in awarding assists. If we are using their statistics Xavi had 23 assists in the 08/09 La Liga season. Most other sites only give him 20.

Deflected passes and rebounds are usually not counted as assists. Unlucky, but it will all be okay once Leo wins his 7th Ballon D'or after we win the CL.

Killjoy. I just don't want M?ller to win this.

One thing that might play in our favour with CL (if we get past Napoli) is that our better games have been away from home recently. We struggle with teams parking bus at Camp Nou at the moment, away games are more open. We’ll see.

Why? He needed 621 minutes less match time for his assists - only had 1 set-piece in his assists and had 10 goals/assists against the top 6 of the table (Messi 9). He really is the top assistant this season - like Lewy is the best no. 9.

Does not change that Messi still is the goat!

But whoscored now gives him 21 assists and they usually have the Opta data.

If it's a 21 tie then key chances created would be a better indicator.

Everything Lewy has hit has gone in this season (which is a key for Muller's stats in a great attacking side) whereas Messi's playing with a bunch of duds who can't finish. It's a miracle he has 20-21 assists in the league given the crap he's playing with.

As great as Xavi was, look at the team he was playing in when he got 20 assists. Several world class forwards to feed. Messi's had a washed up Suarez and Martin Braithwaite.

If it is a tie than minutes should count first. But it is not really important as assists aren't really an official category and there is no price for it - not like with goals.

M?ller has 8 assists for Lewy, Messi 7 for Suarez...

Barcelona is 13.99 better than its xG, Bayern 7.15
Bayern's players are even less clinical...

And Suarez xG Plus without penalties is higher than Lewys...

Lewy is great - but he has great service...

Needs one more CL to cap off the greatest club career ever.

He'd be in ultra elite company in CL trophies (Maldini, CR7, DiStefano etc.)

And he is already far superior in his league legacy to anyone ever IMO (10 titles against RM and AM who were both European forces for the majority of those titles).
