Lionel Messi - v7

I can see PSG making a move for him if Bayern go all in on them on Sunday.

Bayern wouldn't sign him in a million years.

There's Juve but CR7 is there. Inter is a shitshow so he should avoid that.

Doubt he wants EPL at 33/34.

Barca would not sell to PSG unless it was a huge bid.

Or that he realizes the club's vision for rebuilding is shit?

I'm amazed at how much trust some of you put in Josep Maria Bartomeu and his words.

I'm just trying to connect the dots from what we do now, to guess and make an opinion about what we don't know.

And a lot of the guys on this forum too it seems. People are blaming Messi more than Bartomeu for this mess

There's a few clowns who voted Messi as the number 1 culprit in that thread/poll here but I think most everyone agrees it's:

1) The board

Daylight

2) All the seniors, including Messi

What does he expect then? We have no money due to the financial situation and the new season starts up in less than a month. Most we can do is sell off some seniors if they agree to leave.

If Messi expects a Neymar or even Lautaro next season he is delusional.

He is getting older, but we cannot move mountains for him just because he feels sad.

Messi potentially leaving Barca have been talked about for a year now. It was even reported a few months ago that Messi was going to leave for free in 2021. The Bayern loss and the poor situation the team is in probably exasperated that.

I don't think he's the smartest player around. I doubt he'd ever be a competent sporting director or manager, but if he's considering leaving then it's more about him being tired of losing than being happy losing as long as he's around his friends.

I see this clearly as a player who see others around his age winning major trophies while his team is a mess that probably won't win the title he want before he's long gone from the game.

By the way, I still think a motivated Messi under a different, competent team can do lots of damage in Europe.

Maybe he's thinking the CR7 way and being selfish about his legacy. I can't blame or condone him for that.

Trusting Bartomeu can clear and rebuild the squad. I'll believe it when I see it.

Truth is no one knows anything in this forum. We are all speculating and discussing, hence why it's a forum. The truth will be revealed a few years from now when most from the current squad will be gone and there will be a new president. We will know the truth if Barto really is as horrible as everyone here thinks, whether there truly was a club de amigos, and whether Messi is as big of a dictator as media made it seem. I am sure Valverde and Setien will come out and speak more as time passes. I imagine both had an entirely different plan when taking on the job and had no clue what was in store for them.

Shouldn't have publicly defended Valverde if he was tired of losing.

Also should run more than 6km a game. If he is incapable of that, then he should be willing to be subbed or rested.

Doesn't have to be that black or white. A positive direction can be reached without signings or titles. A solid tactic, trust in the right players and so on.
I think many expect the upcoming season to be a transitional year and 0 titles isn't that disastrous provided Koeman can lead the team into a positive direction.

CR tried to up his legacy, but in order to do that, he had to go to a suffering team in Europe, where in case of success he'd be in the limelight as their savior or leader. Messi can do the same, and join a team with no European results and help them achieve that.

Tactically, his best move, if Pep wants him, is to join City. They have a great team that is missing something, and with the addition of Messi and a serious reliable defender, he could win the Champions League with them.

Other than City I see no options for him to really up his legacy. PSG, Bayern, Liverpool are already very successful without him. And he can't lift a weaker side with multiple problems, just like Ronaldo couldn't do it with Juventus.

Like I said, he's not perfect. He might have thought signing some actual good players that fit the team could make them better and give Ernie a better chance at winning too.

Who did we sign? Antoine Griezmann who plays the same position and had a career low season at Atletico.

Messi isn't stupid. He knows a lot of players are past it, even those that are considered his friends. And besides, it's not like Alba and the guys are his family. Closest to him is Suarez and Suarez himself probably knows he isn't good enough anymore.

Actually he is. Falling to nepotism is the definition of stupid.

Almost every star athlete in any sport always backs the manager publicly.

Can't just assume Messi supported Valverde just because of some public statements. It would be bad PR to not back the manager.

The player's job is to go out and play. The board should be responsible for getting the right manager, and also making the right transfer moves in terms of departures and arrivals.

Absolutely ridiculous to blame Messi for not publicly asking that Valverde be sacked.

I do not see Pep wanting him in City at all. All their outfield players put on a shift for 90 mins. Could really see it being PSG if they get hammered in the final or Inter since their new project looks promising. Both Ligue 1 and Serie A are less physical and easier than EPL too.
