Lionel Messi - v7

No one here, not even the biggest Messi haters, think a club rebuild will go easily with the wage and transfer fee gained from selling Messi. We may have a very bad transition period, fighting for a 4th spot in la liga. We need to stop with the galactico signings and focus on better scouting/ la Masia.

Messi was very happy with Valverde.

Messi won two league titles and a QF+SF in CL with Valverde

CR won a CL with Zidane and came in 3rd in the league and a league + CL QF with Sarri, over the same period

Both won a Ballon D'or a piece

All in all its about the same

It's a delicate balance and we don't know where we'll end up. I'm in favor of a total rebuild but I also think we should temper expectations. We could come back to the top again in 1-2-3 years like Bayern or we could go fully south like United or Milan. That's not to say retaining amigos is the way to go but I don't think we should expect immediate relief without their deadweight, seeing as Barto is still pulling the strings and we're about to drop 100M on Lautaro.

We will have a bad period, in terms of possibly no titles for 2-3 years, but it won't be as bad as fighting vs Villareal/Getafe for 4th sport. Nowhere near imo. If we manage to get rid of the Amigos and replace them with good, hardworking players, we might even improve in CL.

Messi is 33, so i don't think him staying or not will have a big impact on when/how the rebuild will go down. It has to be done as soon as possible anyway and Messi won't really be a part of a future team simply due to his age.

I personally hope he stays but the team needs A LOT of work and at his age we can't expect Messi to carry the team much longer. The team has to be able to function well without Messi, can't depend on him as much anymore.

It will have a big impact if we see him with a "free role" to do what he wants. It will limit the way other players develop. If he accepts some changes, he would be able to help.

It's shocking how bad the player recruitment have been since Bartomeu won the re-election. Barca should not have been in this position to begin with.

400 M on Coutinho, Griez, Dembele, none of whom were major participants in the last 3 CL defeats for one reason or another.

More money wasted on Arda Turan, Aleix Vidal, Andre Gomes and others. The last quality starter they signed was in 2014.

Don't consider Lenglet or Umtiti who had one good year as a proper quality starter.

Horrendous, worse than Man U signings post SAF if you ask me. That’s why I think a rebuild may go terribly if it’s Barto calling the shots on transfers. You can’t blame everything on Abidal. The big galacticos like Coutinho, Griezmann, and now Lautaro are definitely pushed for by Barto.

One thing we can't blame Messi for considering none of those 6 he would want anywhere near the team if he was the "dictator".

Why is the 3-0 Roma and 4-0 anfield even used against Messi? Those games were totally lost by the midfield and shocking defending/goalkeeping. Sure he didn?t score but he?s not playing CB conceding goals left right and centre.
