Lionel Messi - v7

If Messi leaves, how many of his contingent become City fans?

Do we have an over/under on that?

I thinks those who support Messi supported him since few years back in his prime that is long enough for them to gradually fall in love with the club. I doubt they will change clubs because of old Messi

It's important to note that Messi's old amigo, Fabregas, left the club and it didn't seem to bother Messi too much. Their families were also very close to eachother and I think still are.

That was back in 2014, Xavi and Iniesta still running the team and way before the creation of club de amigos.

Messi was probably going to leave in 2021 anyway, but time running out for him and this team being garbage might make him reconsider and leave earlier.

I have no problem with Messi if he thinks his cycle is over and doesn't have the hunger to stay around while his generation is moved on. Perfectly acceptable. I think both parties should be open for a move. Who knows, might motivate Messi for some good 1-2 years.

Even Jordan played for the Wizards before he retired for good.

I suspect some fans have already started resenting and rebelling Messi for grooming the pet at the expense of the team, club, fans the last few years.

The resentment and rebellion will probably grow if he chooses to avenge his pet.

It's not so much the hunger. It's the fact that he's a tactical headache until we have a perfect 5 wingers/midfield around him (just look at the Koeman thread). Which we don't and will need another 1-2 years to get, by which time he will be 34-35.

For him to be dominant again, he needs a team that's already got most of the other parts. Even PSG wouldn't work because their midfield is trash. I can only see City (among those competing for serious trophies).

Yea, I don't know what he will gain. Or what we will gain if he stays.

- we're not competing for the CL for his last years with or without him, that much is proven
- it's unlikely we'll finish lower than 3rd or 4th at the very worst without him
- unlikely we'll be winning La Liga in the next 1-2 seasons

So, it's not like Barca and Messi have too much to gain if he stays around for 1-2 years. The outcome next season is almost guaranteed no titles, or maybe a Copa. And for 2022 as well.

Might as well go and have a run at the CL with a better team if there is a deal that benefits all 3 parties.

I think Messi will remain one of the best players till he is age 37 or so. Even if speeds declines, he's got so many other great aspects to his game. I'd like him to stay for the rebuild.

Only in ability. In performance on the pitch, no way.

Even a prime Lewandowski (physically and in form) wasn't decisive yesterday and that was against a good but nothing special PSG defense.

Messi has way too much mileage on those legs after 15 years of elite club + NT football. He has 3ish years at a team like City and only like 1-2 with us.

He's was obviously going to leave in 2022..finish the season with Barca then do the World Cup and retire from both teams.

Perhaps it's best to leave Barca now though.

City is a perfect destination for Messi to have the final glory in his career as a player. He has to make a decision quick or it will be too late.

win the PL - put all those doubts to bed
win in another league - same as above
win City that coveted CL

may just be able to rescue his legacy as GOAT
