Laporta is just another politician that lies as he breathes. He never wanted to keep Messi. All these bullshit excuses about the legacy and how the league didn't budge.

It's a big gamble from Laporta and I don't think it's too far fetched to think that he decided to hasten the exit, considering the financial situation its almost impossible to know what to do.
I guess he knows full well that he won't last long if the post Messi-era doesn't go well though. No matter the circumstance, Barca has lost its idol and a player symbolic with the club, and despite the previous boards disastrous reign some people won't forgive Laporta as he was the one in charge when he officially left if Barca doesn't recover itself to a competitive level.

Laporta might have done right by Barca. We won’t know until a few years down the road. Might have been time for us to split with Messi. We got no money lol.
