that said, KL is right that the CL tie against RM will be decisive. all will be forgotten and forgiven if he shows up, and the criticisms will reach fever pitch if he doesnt

messigician is right tho to question whether it is all that easy to 'turn it on' after so many months of mediocre football

The 'doesnt try in France' idea is wrong.

Other night he was clearly trying to point looked frustrated. Ran a fair bit for him as well it looked like.

Isnt as finished as that performance would suggest and can still have his moments.

But you need match rhythm and form to turn up in champions league.

He's done pretty good in CL and WCQ while struggling in Ligue 1 at the same time lol. Whether it's enough for CL KOs which are more intense than CL groups (obviously), we'll find out over the next 2 months? I just don't see the logic in judging him before the CL has played out. Didn't I say if he drops a disaster class (no goals, assists, or whatever else metric you want to use), we can conclude his time at the top is finally over?

I guess I can agree with that.

I still don't think we should give him a freepass for stinking up a farmers league of all places

couldnt agree more

in fact, if that were true, then youd have to conclude that messi is a terrible professional, which i doubt his fans will say

you can be sure that if CR were playing just as poorly in France, the trolling and lolling here would be endless

but again, its very easy to ignore inconvenient truths

CR7 is trolled more than Messi on a Barca forum because Messi is a Barcelona legend. And because CR7 is cringe in his antics on social media and interviews.

Same way Messi is trolled more than CR7 on Redcafe, a United forum

If that's your gripe, you can always head over there and be more comfortable among CR7 fans.

great, then leave this barca forum and make your way to whatever the PSG forum is because your agenda here is clear:

1- messi is at fault for nothing, no matter how poor he plays or how often fails
2- see 1

also its not as simple as that because as the last 20-30 pages show there are plenty of cules who are no longer under the messi spell and have rightly criticized messi

To be fair, let's change our perspective and look at Messi from a completely outsider point of view. He is 34 (about to turn 35), has won almost everything possible multiple times, proved almost everything that needed to be proven, what else is there left for him? He has 3 kids, a beautiful wife, you think he has the same motivation he did in say 2015 or 2019? 90 % of his social media posts are something family related now. He is enjoying his Paris life and gets to play with half of his international team at that.

He has every right to take it easy in Ligue 1, and heck who knows he may have underestimated it. It's a tough physical league and maybe he thinks it's best not to play as hard there to avoid injuries.

You really can't have a civil discussion can you? You're the self professed CR7 fan who antagonizes Messi and his fans on a Barcelona forum more than anyone antagonizes CR7 on the CR7 thread. Pretty sure everyone will agree with this bolded statement.

We are talking about the ballon dor winner, a trophy which only the best player in the world wins so of course the standards are high. As long as CR7 and Messi steer for the ballon dor, the standards won't get lower.

i do like CR. big whoop. CR> messi for me all day. but i am perfectly willing to admit that

1) he is flawed, deeply in some respects.
2) he is finished as an elite, top 3 or 5 player

thats the key difference. you cant bring yourself to say anything whatsoever negative about messi even in the face of overwhelming evidence

If he would play magical in cl and playing crap in ligue 1 i would agree but so far we didnt see a top performance from him yet. If he destroys Real then of course its another story.
