of course it doesnt. but no serious pundit beyond the barca bubble (and more specifically the messi-barca bubble) would rank messi above maradona

not even argentinians do, lol, his own compatriots

Apparently, in Argentina they laugh at you if you say LM is better than DM.

Argentinians are subjective in that discussion. Since they're Argentinians, all they care about (obviously) is international football.

When did it become relevant what Argies think about it?

I guess it's got something to do with the fact that both hail from the same country.

Argentinians obviously care more what the player in question did for THEM, not what level of footballer he is. If it was Buruchaga or someone else, who did that kind of performance in WC, they would say he's the greatest. Winning trophies for Barca doesn't make you a hero in homeland.

Tru. I saw one Argentine pundit even claiming that the 2021 ballon d'or was the most deserved of all his ballon d'ors so they clearly seem to focus more on Messi internationally than at club level.

Messi destroys Maradona at the club level and in individual records/goalscoring feats.

Maradona destroys Messi on the international level.

In Maradona's time, international level was higher than club level.

In Messi's time, club level is FAR higher than international level.

Both are GOATs. I like Messi more and think he is better at his best. His physical and technical prowess at his peak (go look at his CL dribbling/goals from some of his peak seasons in 11, 15 etc.) is the best in football history.

Some new rumours floating around about Beckham trying lure Messi to sign for Inter Miami.

Reckon he'll play another season at PSG though.

Maradona is incredibly overrated.

He is more famous for his international play rather than his club play. Messi it's the exact opposite.

Technically both are equal in talent. The main argument is that Maradona was more clutch than Messi. And if you go deep into that argument, then it all comes down to Messi being a more effective "system player" and being surrounded by other world class players for his success.

When Maradona came, Napoli were in shambles.

He almost singlehandedly won them multiple trophies and took them to the top of the best league in the world by far.

Maradona is the OG and only carry-job guy!

cute narrative

Argentina had other good players and were a very well balanced team. Napoli paid a record breaking fee for him and also signed other top Italian and Brazilian players, furthermore even Verona won Serie A in 1985 so Napoli winning was nothing out of the ordinary in the 80s.
