Nah he was better in 2014.

MOTM in five of the seven games with 4 goals and an assist. Even when he didnt score or assist v Belgium in QF he was one of best players on park and taking ball deep.

Argentina in 2014 played in way to protect a poor defence invidually. Particualrly when Sabella lost Di Maria and Aguero wasnt fit. It was their best chance to win it. That impacted the attacking players a bit from there.

In 2010 Maradona more or less had Tevez as main man and Messi doing donkey work for him.

No contest his 2014 WC was much better.

In 2018 there was the least 'hope' v France and he assisted twice in 4-3 defeat so he didnt quite get moody and give up and there was huge pressure in the Nigeria game when he scored a very good goal.

To even get them there he put in huge performances in qualifiers.

That team was an utter disaster with no structure at all. Lucky even got out of group reallly.

Messi best sides were the organised side Sabella put together in 2014 with Messi, Aguero, Higuain and Di Maria given freedom to go early as can when get ball.. that was done when first Aguero got injured and then Di Maria and Sabella decided to protect further a poor defence. Still went close to winning though.

Messis other best team is this one now which also has a clear way of playing and almost a club like enviroment. Individually it is a better team than they have had in past but not one of top teams in tournament... Portugal have better individuals let alone Brazil etc.

If Argies win it they will rely heavily on that defence and Messi having moments. They wont go out and blow decent teams away.

Crap was probably too hard but i thought we will see a magical Messi after his fantastic 17-18 season and yeah i agree the team structure was unbelievable bad, Sampaoli had no clue what to do. Sabella did a terrific job and they could have won with Di maria.

I rate Argentinia on tier 2 level, Brazil/France tier 1.
