Lucas Lima

I'm talking about Mathieu at LB, not CB.

He and Adriano were forced into the LB spot so many times by Lucho it made our heads spin. Meanwhile Grimaldo wasn't even given a minute in preseason. Then in the following season Mathieu was starting games ahead of Digne and Alba at different times, and no I'm not just talking about that failed 3-4-3 experiment.

Grimaldo seemed to be his attitude as much as anything Lucho didnt take too.

Munir and Sandro were promoted, Denis and Rafinha in first team squad for first time and effectively promoted and Roberto got a lot more minutes. Not all young/b players were ignored.

There's not anything discernibly wrong with Grimaldo's attitude.

Munir and Sandro proved to not be good enough, although Munir was growing into the backup we needed imo before being loaned. Rafinha was a personal project of Lucho's who we knew would get minutes regardless because he brought him back from Celta with him, and while Denis did get his first first team minutes under Lucho, he wasn't exactly given many opportunities. He had, what, 12 starts(?) in 50+ games? Not compared to Gomes, who was starting left and right no matter how important the game.

Edit: Just checked, and Gomes has 47 appearances. That's only a few less than Messi

I mean surely Valverde will be better than that but let's not pretend Lucho loved La Masia and only neglected it because players weren't good enough.

I read that we can get in trouble by Fifa if we talked with Lima to come for free before their was six months left on his contract. If true I could see why MD and Sport and some of the other Barcelona Based radio stations and even his reps will keep denying we have talked with Lima and offered him a deal.

Just have to wait until July I guess.

Not really looking to argue about his attitude but reports at time said Lucho not entirely happy with it. So not so much him being blocked by other first squad members he never even really got that far.

Yes so all those players got proper first team chances under Lucho from B team for first time.

That's still an issue with Lucho. He arbitrarily had issues with players several times. I still remember the rumors about Vidal. Supposedly he injured himself playing basketball. Supposedly he made negative comments on social media. Maybe he wasn't performing well enough on the pitch. Or maybe Lucho is just a dick.

All I can say to that second paragraph is quality over quantity. Sandro was never first team quality in the first place, Munir was obviously still a Juvenil player when he started getting minutes and was only brought up because of the transfer ban (Notice how he vanished right when it ended?), Denis never even got a real chance (Especially compared to the likes of Arda and Gomes), and the only real case that can be made for him truly liking a young player is Rafinha who is practically his son.

Meanwhile Gumbau is getting called up over Samper, Grimaldo rots with the B team, and our B team captain isn't acknowledged even though we don't have a RB. Some B team players had more first team trainings than they had starts with Barca B but Palencia somehow wasn't good enough for even a call up to training.

Oh well. I totally disagree with almost all of that but been through it a hundred times it feels like.

He can't sign and we also shouldn't talk with him before July but then again, why does Goretzka apparently already have a deal with Bayern after his contract expires next summer? Those things happen all the time but yes, with our bad relationship with Santos back from Neymar transfer they could report us to FIFA if we in the end sign Lucas Lima (even if we won't really do anything wrong).

That said it's also very possible he's just using Barça's name to get a better contract with Santos. This whole story about him playing poker with Neymar and said out loud before 50 people he'll sign with us just seems suspicious and it wouldn't surprise me at all if that would be the case.

Indeed. At this point we're more or less in limbo as we wait to see what kind of manager Valverde will be. We don't have much choice but to agree to disagree for now.

When is the first pre-season game anyway?

We have been following Lima, for quite awhile since he was younger but didn't bother to make a move for him since his price tag would be a bit more than we were willing to pay for and the fact our relations with Santos are terrible.

Could be right though that we are being used for a better contract.

Reading more of the article Santos only owns 10% of the economic rights when it comes to Lima and the 80% of it belongs to Doyen fund. if Lima does join us on a free transfer, not only would Santos not get any money from the deal they will have to pay Doyen 8 million euros out of their own pocket.

I could see why Santos are angry.

"The company run by Neymar's father, N&N consultancy, represent Lima and have played a key role in securing his move to Camp Nou."

why are we signing another mediocre player and one that linked to Neymar Sr.? Lima is no better than Turan or Rafinha.
