Lucas Lima

Let's wait and see some more. Maybe we're preparing a deal to sell Arda and this guy will replace him. Maybe we're planning to sell Rafinha too.

I would agree that it is an underwhelming first signing if true. But he might be OK for a backup. And I'm pretty sure the net salary is around 2m.

That is the only way this could make sense.

They better have good offers for not just Arda, but also for Rafinha.

That is the only way i am swallowing that pill.

I'll never understand board apologists. Ignore the blatant incompetence/corruption/failure of effectiveness that we see almost daily just to be a contrarian. Who requested Lucas Lima? If someone actually scouted him and thought he'd be good for us, they need to be fired immediately for gross incompetence. In the other (much more likely) scenario, Lima is a corrupt-ass transfer that has nothing to do with football and all to do with money and shady deals. Can't believe one could suggest it's "too far" to think he was bought for Neymar or for any BS reason. People also said that it's all sensationalism and smoke to call Rosell and his associates crooks, fast forward a few years and he's literally in jail. Defending these people is just being proven wrong again. and again. Every day. It is a fact that they are liars and a poor, dishonest board.

So you think it is a corrupt transfer to keep Neymar happy and line the pockets of those involved in a shady deal?

Load of crap in my opinion and no one knows if he will even be signed.

ESPN Brazil says Rafinha has an offer from Arsenal and could leave this summer.
JamDav1982 to answer your question I got caught up reading from thoughts from Barca twitter that people think that Barto was willing to sign Lima to keep Neymar and his dad happy. I forget Barca Twitter at times is extreme in that way.

I do find the idea of Lima being our only Midfield signing to be ridiculous though. Unless Valverde somehow turns Gomes into the second coming of Xavi, we will still need a real good CM this summer.

Agree if he was to be signed and the only midfielder brought in it wouldnt be good enough as argued for long enough the midfield is not up to scratch and needs improved.

For me if he has no European passport and Neymar and Suarez aren't expected to get one then this could go as a shady deal for me as it block us from signing any non-euro player like Mina/Davinson etc
But if not I might get it if he is under low wage and just signed as bench replacement.
Not a fan but I remember Jombi long time affection with him. So may be he is good and we are ignorant. Would like more info from the Brazilians here. Where is Flavia?

Nobody can even give a single reason why we should even sign this guy.

Like, I'd at least like some positive words to argue against, but there are none. Just another blatantly BS transfer that's doesn't serve to improve the team in a sporting manner.

He has some decent vision and can create chances but I noticed his work rate and pressing was inconsistent and considering Valverde is well known for implementing a high pressure-Possession system, Lima would need to be better in the pressing/work rate area if he has a remote chance of even playing under Valverde. (assuming he joins)

I remember a couple of years ago when he was a bit younger he was being linked to moves to PSG,Real and other European teams but he decided to stay at Santos. But his form dropped and he stagnated and with him being 27 soon I would have to think he would have been better if he had left Brazil earlier.

now lets forget about alena and samper, send them to some useless club on loan where they won't develop and we're ready for new season

Sorry if it was mentioned already.
Fox Brasil and some sources are saying that we are getting Lima because Neymar requested it.

I mean, we need to do everything we can to keep Neymar happy.
Imagine where we would be without his huge onfield impact and happiness.

Reading more of the article Santos only owns 10% of the economic rights when it comes to Lima and the 80% of it belongs to Doyen fund. if Lima does join us on a free transfer, not only would Santos not get any money from the deal they will have to pay Doyen 8 million euros out of their own pocket.

I could see why Santos are angry.

Why? If anything we'll probably have to pay that if we'll in the end sign him which I still don't believe will happen.

Also, who owns the other 10% of his rights? Neymar Sr.?

Neymar broke up with his girlfriend Bruna so he is looking for a single party buddy.

His agreed salary (4m) is ridiculously high for his profile, he is getting paid more than players like Umtiti, Rafinha, Isco, Morata, Carvajal, Casemiro etc. Wages are already out of control so why buy player that wasn't needed and won't add much value to our midfiled? He will probably take Alena playing time.

If it was up to me, I would sell Neymar to PSG for Verratti+ 80m, then buy Dembele, Semedo, and Davinson.
