I think a loan is the better option. If he doesn't work out or live up to the expectations we will send him back.

He is coming, no doubt about that. MD seems to be more reliable these days and I believe that we will buy him.

We could definitely make room for him in the team:

Mathieu
Gambau
Turan
Adriano
Song
Tello
Munir/Sandro
Douglas
Vermaleen*** (might still come in handy)
Some of these MOFO's have to go!!

He isn't the ideal option I'd like off the bench but that ship has already sailed. Lot to like about Vietto, even if only a loan, but it's clear he failed to flourish in 1 season at Atletico when they needed attackers - so doesn't bode terribly well for us or anyone else. Unless, of course, he was going to see regular minutes

Perhaps Lucho, Messi et al will be able to get his best game again

Some players just aren't fitted to a particular style of play/team's psychology.
A clear example would be Ibra at Barcelona and Dzeko at City and most recently Arda at Barcelona ( again ).
Vietto isn't the brash, rugged type of striker, and this clearly makes him a very very bad choice for Atletico.
However, if we are to judge based on his days at Villareal, I'd say we have a potential gem in our hands.
Super sub? . . . most likely.

Loan would be the best option.. If he shows good games, we can buy him, if not, we can send him back to Atletico.. Or sign him on loan and then sign Jesus in January..

I think this whole loan idea is just Sport not ready to give up on Gabriel Jesus rumours yet. I don't know why though. Signing Vietto doesn't mean we can't sign GJ too in January or next summer. People here keep saying he can play all positions but from what I've seen so far from him I just don't think he can play as CF in our system. I only see GJ as Neymar's backup (and maybe as RW, but we all know Messi always plays :)) and possible future replacement. So buy him in January/next summer and then let him on loan for a season (or season and half if we buy him in January) to a good La Liga team to get him experience. Then get him back in 2018 to see what he's got and in around 2019-20 I think Neymar will leave (personally I just don't see him staying here longer; maybe he'll even leave before that) and make GJ his replacement if he shows enough. If not, then we'll have to pay much more to get Neymar's successor.

As for Vietto, we'll see how he'll work out but for all we know he could be our future "9" and Suarez replacement in 2-3 years. If we can get that now for 20-25M instead of paying 70-80M when needed that would be the kind of forward thinking most people here wanted. Even if he doesn't work out he's young enough so we can sell him and at least recuperate most of the money invested in him.

Always thinking negatively? :) What IF he does work out well for us and we'd like to keep him but can't because Atletico decides to take him back? We would actually develop a player for our title rival in that case. And most likely, if he's really loaned he wouldn't be allowed to play against Atletico. What if one of MSN is injured at that time and we'd really need Vietto to play but he couldn't?

I'd only take a loan if we'd have a buy option at the end of the season.

The thing is it doesn't make sense for AM to loan him tbh

Yeah, if Atletico is still counting on him (loaning instead of selling would probably mean that) for the future they'd better send him on loan or sell with buy back option to a team like Celta, Villarreal or Valencia where he'll play much more than here.

I have a hard time seeing that happening to be honest. To me he looks far too lightweight to really thrive as our 9. He doesn't have Suarez's strength or tenacity, and without that physicality I can see him being crowded out and knocked off the ball far too easily. I hope I'm wrong if we sign him though.

He's just a typical tap in guy. Almost all those goals in video above were created by someone else. Not fast and technical enough to play on wing, not strong enough to play as no 9. Honestly he looks a a lot like a Bojan to me... Just average in everything. That may be good enough for Villareal, but not for Barca (or Atletico).

I hope it isn't a loan deal. Then Atletico can take him back and if he has a great season then we would need to buy him for a huge fee. Maybe I would take him on loan with a decent buy option.

We will never get him on loan without a buy option

Loan with a buy option of 25M. Perfect
We wouldn't need to spend additional money this summer, at least not on an attacker and could use those 30 something remaining millions in the budget for someone else (RB,CM?) even though i don't think we're gonna nor do we actually need anyone else, since we're clearly (rightly so) counting on Roberto and Vidal to do the job on RB and seemingly keeping Arda and giving him one more year to prove that he's worthy of out kit.
