Danger Ahead
Rijkaard as caretaker manager would be VERY interesting. He left the club under a cloud but really it was the disruptive influences of Deco, Ronaldinho that led to his demise.

He knows the club very well and would have a clear plan on how to play.

It would be interesting indeed, Rijkaard's style was totally unpredictable, however it was mainly because of Ronaldinho, he let him do whatever he wanted on the pitch and so he might not be able to recreate that in current Barcelona.

Just goes to show that he hasn't learned anything since then. His time here won't end well if he continues to be this stubborn.

I believe he has already ended his career so it doesn't matter if we want him to come back or not.

His agent denied that if I remember correctly , said he is taking rest for now

People want Rijkaard back. Its getting desperate now

While I don't want him back(I never like coaches coming back anyway) why it is desperate?he is one of the most successful coaches in the history of our club and widely considered 3rd after Pep & Cruijff .
Rijkaard was always good coach in the top level,he had a freaking stupid agent who put him with mediocre teams and he was never good with those ,I would really want him to get a chance in a top club as he deserve it ,but I don't like the Nostalgia

1)AGree with you about the board!

2)Bielsa would have a mutiny on his hands in a couple of months. Our stars are treated with kid gloves.

3) Love Klopp but his style would need the sale and purchase of MANY players. Do you see someone like Busquets playing in a Klopp Barca??

1. Ok
2. Pep had very imposing principles and ideas that made that squad work brilliantly. Why other coach couldn't do the same no matter his name?
3. Agreed. Busi proved himself invaluable just under Guardiola. He is under no circumstance a true untouchable. And there are quite a few just in his position right now.

I think results are secondary at the moment, at least for me. Of course I want the team to win every game and to win every trophy but I don't think that everyone is angry because we lost against Real and Vigo. This is just the tip on the iceberg.

It's about enjoying this team. Football is about enjoying and having fun. Neither the fans nor the players seem to have fun at the moment. A big problem is that our players only have enjoy playing when our opponent makes it relatively easy for us. If an opponent parks the bus, there is zero confidence, zero creativity and zero team-play at the moment. We have the world's best footballers in our squad but we still can't enjoy them. Even after we win (e.g against Ajax) everyone complains. It's like every good moment is overshadowed by the bad moments which unfortunately become more and more.

The game vs Milan was the last time I really enjoyed every single minute. The atmosphere, the desire of every single player, Messi's ridiculous form and simply the big middle finger to the international press who wrote us off. Since then some matches were good, some were ok, but most were like ''yeah, 3 points. I'm going to sleep now.''

I want to have the feeling back that we build something, that we're united, that we fight for every centimetre on the pitch. This is what I want. I could care less about a loss vs Real Madrid or Celta Vigo because losses happen in football but I want to see a plan and a direction where things are going.

There is no atmosphere in the Camp Nou. It seems like most fans take wins for granted. Would we support our team if it was at place 18 in the table? BVB fans did that yesterday and they won the match because of their unbelievable support.

It's really sad but I'm not looking forward to any match like I did a few years ago because it's always the same procedure: Opponent parks the bus - we have problems - we score in the 70th minute - we score the winner and everyone goes home. It's annoying and it's certainly not the beautiful thing I fell in love with a few years ago.

Man, good fucking post. :beer2:

I wouldn't even mind where we are right now as far as our position in CL and La Liga goes if we showed signs of improvement. I didn't watch the Almeria match but particularly against Ajax, there were times in the first half where I was enjoying Ajax play more than Barca and it just gutted me. We were 6s and 7s out there at the beginning of the match, they were out pressing us and it was hard to believe what I was seeing at times.

Any fantasy of us getting a different coach right now is dumb. Lucho will most likely be here until 2016 because particularly if we fall apart this season and the transfer ban stays intact, no sane coach would want to come here. If anything, keep Lucho here. Let us hit rock bottom because it would be the final nail in the coffin for this board and then we start from scratch in 2016. Particularly since he likes to play with 25 different line-ups a season, at least our youth players get bleed a little bit and can develop.

I would honestly laugh a lot if Laporta came back to steal the elections in 2016 and appoint no one other than Frank Rijkaard as his new coach. Deja vu all over again, and with how bad things are getting now, expect the unexpected with this club.

There are other coaches who I think could fit the bill as well. Pep obviously but I can't see him dropping everything he has at Bayern yet, Frank de Boer would be a very solid choice as well. Also, I might take some flack for this but AVB wouldn't be bad either. His failures at Chelsea and Tottenham I think had more to do with his squad not being suited to the sort of tactics he likes and I think with a team of our quality, he could be successful. He at least has some tactical knowledge, he just hasn't been in the best team to do it with, par Porto. He isn't doing poorly with Zenit either, but there is no question he'd be a big risk.

But I don't know, something about Rijkaard actually does sound appealing and makes sense. Especially since he was the man who gave us Messi, him coming back at the tail end of Messi's career has a nice ring to it and I think he could find a system that could get the best out of him again.

Great posts & my feelings exactly!
I love winning as much as anybody but what set FC Barcelona apart the last few years was that they won with beautiful football. It's been a little heartbreaking that I don't have any expectations for any match we play. They all tend to go the same way and if we win it's down to the World Class players we have.

With this board we are patching up cracks rather than maintaining a solid foundation. Rather than to replace a few players our board goes and replaces a manager who won 14 Trophies in 4 years. What kind of logic is that? What other club would do such a stupid thing? If you've read some excerpts of the new book on Pep he talks about the night in Madrid where he converted Messi into a False 9. The space Messi would drift into called the "Messi Zone" no longer exists in majority of matches we play. All clubs are onto this tactic but some clubs don't have the power/players to stop it completely. The big clubs however do. I love and support Barcelona but it seems we'll have to hit rock bottom before we can surge back to the top of the World. Hopefully the right changes happen in 2016 :barca scarf:

About Pep again. People tend to forget that he struggled big time at his first year at Bayern. Yeah, he won the league, but Bundesliga last year was a joke, Dortmund had to deal with organizational issues and had loads of injuries and they really have a small team comparing nowadays requirements on the elite level. I tend to read Bayern's forum and majority fans were actually disappointed, because of the very high standards and of course because of the Bayerns status. It was not just because of the results, it was especially because they did not see any idea besides passing the ball and they were especially disappointed if they were somehow lucky to beat some minnows away 1-0 or 2-0.
yeah, Lucho is not Pep and et cetera, but i see similar things in here- no system, no ideas, no control, ugly, we do not dominate, we do not pres we are not Barca anymore, we won't win anything with that system, too many rotations, too many players in strange formations (Lahm as DM, anyone!) etc etc.
Lucho may not be the coach we need or maybe not good enough and not Pep, but then again, lets give him at least chance unlike Bayern fans that I referred.
In my opinion, the picture of Lucho is especially dark because we have Real madrid in comparison. We tend to forget how they struggled in transition and only live in the moment where madrid is playing beatifully and winning and we are in transition. The same old impatience and obsession with Madrid. Real Madrid was playing like crap until Christmas last year, but hey, Carlo is genius and the first rate.
You can't build anything when you are not willing to let some things go.

P.S And all this bring back Rijkaard thing, as ridiculous as it is: those who might fancy idea or think that Rijkaard was a good transitional coach may check the league table of Rijkaard's time after 10-15 matches of the season. Please do.
