Sure thing these stories are fake. We let them agree the fee and then gazumped it. But, I do believe Willian was a smokescreen. Maybe we were interested, but there's no way we bid 75 mil euros for him.

^^is this guy ever happy?

Monchi clearly said they had a deal agreed on lower price, then Barca got in and Roma had to offer more, which they did. Then again they were asked to raise their bid and then Monchi refused.

So if we were after him and serious about it we could have had him for 10-15 mil. less.

MD is full of shit. We were after Willian and made offers which got rejected. Asking price was now 60-70 mil. and how time passed they probably picked up fans being unhappy with the name and the price and gave up and jumped on Malcom. One MD (board mouthpiece) article made a special point of repeating how Willian is 29 (eventhough he is 30 in less than a month).

Of course I am making some guesses here but it's the most realistic scenario. Can't forget we wanted Di Maria last summer so I can easily see how they were after Willian.

That's three players over a year. Where do I send my CV?

Good signing for Barca. Will be interesting to see how they manage Malcom + Dembele given their similar profiles.

I doubt. I would say final price was actually lower because we officially entered the race very late.

IIRC when Everton and Inter were interested Bordeaux demanded 40M. Inter was close to get him but they wanted a loan with obligatory buy so Bordeaux rejected that. Eventhough Everton is a rich club from EPL (they've just bought Richarlyson for 55M) they are still second tier financially compared to Barça (at least in minds of selling clubs). Inter and Roma are probably 3rd or 4th tier. After Bordeaux accepted 32+4M offer from Roma and we offered 40M they couldn't refuse and say "we want 50M because you're Barça and have money".

Also, if Malcom would be our primary target and there would be speculations about him in the media for weeks his price would also increase. Other bigger clubs would suddenly get interested (whether that interest would be real or fake) so I think we'd have to pay more than 50M if not 60M to get Malcom if we'd still want him for that price.

Does anyone know if Malcom was going through pre-season with Bordeaux? If so, how long has he been training?

I'm wondering if he'll be fit enough to take part in any of our upcoming friendlies.

That is so true which is uncanny! Seriously you could work for us as a scout.

I guess we will be signing from this pool of players next: Gonçalo Guedes, Lemar, Fekir, Éder Militão and Houssem Aouar? ;)

Him and Dembele on the wings are going to create havoc for the opposition.

Really hope to see:

Dembele-Suarez-Malcolm

Frontline this season, especially in the easier Liga games.

Just finished browsing those 50 pages from the last two days, as I lay in bed, tired from yesterday. You were on fire posting  . 30 mins of reading.

So, my 2 cents. A great transfer and I hope that he brings some competition to Dembele, because I think he needs some competition (like in Dortmund when he had to perform to start). A low risk signing that brings a lot tactical variation to the squad.
