Was always my favourite LB that came out of La Masia. Always thought he was better than Grimaldo, Miranda & Balde (currently).
Still don't get why he was always a thought after in Barca board and with even La Masia fanatics.
Big challenge ahead of him though.

Not really.
In the past they overpaid for many, and some of them flopped.
Jury is still out on Grealish, but keep in mind they paid 120m euros
Ake might have flopped for 45m
Stones might have flopped for 55m
Mendy certainly flopped for close to 60m
and if you go further back in time,
Otamendi for 45m?
Mangala for 45m (!) ???
They have certainly overspent for players whose returns on the pitch are at least questionable
Since Pep took over, they replaced their entire squad apart from KDB, spent around 2 billion euros and there are only a handful of players you can come up with that were objectively poor signings.
Otamendi and Managala were pre-Pep. Grealish might be the biggest blunder of them lot. Mendy had his career derailed due to off pitch scandals and injuries, looked very talented when fit and playing. Stones did a decent enough job, Danilo can be singled out as a much poorer use of funds.
Consider the business of clubs like Barca, United, Chelsea etc. in the past 5 years and City are leagues above.

Didn't object to that last part.
I was talking about the valuations of some players they paid for.
Many of them you can rightfully say they overpaid for given what they returned on the pitch.
And that's not a dig on Pep, refers more to the City board that was there before Pep.
Now, I am saying maybe the criticism towards their spending grew on them, and they are trying to change their skin this window.
Sold Zichenko, Jesus, Sterling for good money, might do the same with Bernardo to us.
But trying to buy low and not many to replace the above players.
They lost out on their prime LB target, and there is no one with his profile and PL experience available. While we know they had the money to get him

They've walked away from a few deals where the player goes above their valuation. There's more to it than just paying the fee eg future negotiating positions with other clubs imposing a city tax on players. Similar to Liverpool they often don't exceed what they value a player at. They might also have potential b teamers who might be able to Fill that void or may have other targets.

Yeah always thought this player was OK-goodish, but these values are surely PL inflated. He could have been of a lot of use as Alba replacement/rotation the last few years I am sure, and also as LW or even LCD, especially in a back 3.
A shame that so many la masia players are proving themselves elsewhere, rather than getting the chance to do so at Camp Nou.

Will be interesting to see if the stubborn Lucho will budge on his Alba/Alonso LB selection for the NT until Qatar. Surely a 60m rated player should take a spot ahead of at least Alonso for Spain. So far he has 0 call-ups with likes of Gaya and Reguilon being preferred until now.
