Martin Braithwaite

players are employees at first and the way I see it Braithwaite is 31 and entering the last 2 years of his lifes greatest payday. Nothing that comes after it will come close, let alone top it. Meaning that Barca holds no leverage here and there is not a single argument speaking as to why Braithwaite would compromise for less other than sheer charity and goodwill. If Braithwaite was a 22yo with potential then a move elsewhere makes great sense, but with the 5 years he has left he will not be able to top the 6+6m guaranteed net that he can make by just holding the club to contract terms. He knows that, Barca knows that and overall the fans may hate it, but we'd all do the same.

The good news is that Barcelona can unilaterally terminate the contract of Braithwaite and have FIFA determine the compensation. Likely to be what is the remainder of his contract but could be a little less.

It's not 6m NET FFFS!
Stop spreading misinformation.

It's 6m GROSS, aka 3m NET per year.
Barto was utterly stupid, but not as stupid to give 6m net to someone who at best is worth 0.5 m net

As for the rest,
I don't get why everyone here is fixated on the 'legal aspect of things'. No one charged him of doing something illegal.
We are not even discussing about the legality of the situation here, and most of us are not even lawyers to have the expertise to discuss that.

We are discussing on the moral aspect of things, and as most should know what is legal is not always moral, and vice versa

On the moral aspect, then,
This dude demands a payout of his whole contract despite a Saudi club willing to match (if not triple as some reports said) his wages.
Some say he wants payout even to then sign for that club.
How would you characterize that, then, from a moral POV?
Because I would say he is a greedy shameless worm

PS: No, not all players act like that when they have years in their contract.
Pjanic agreed to lower his wage to play football somewhere last season.
And many other examples.
Not everyone is a greedy shameless worm

Maybe he doesn't want to go live in and play in Saudi Arabia? Nothing greedy or immoral about that and more the opposite if anything.

He shouldn't be insulted like that over an unproven story from a source which has a clear agenda in painting him in a negative light.

If he desperately wants to keep his contract fine. He can exercise his legal rights.

But we can also exercise our rights and not register him for any competitions/not take him to any matchdays as there is far too many players ahead of him. We could also terminate him.

Does Braithwaite really want to spend the last years of his career as a non-footballer, who doesn't even warm the bench as he is not good enough to make the matchday squad? I don't think so and hope he will come to his senses soon and accept a move.

Not only that.
I wouldn't permit him to train with the group AT ALL TIMES.
His contract allows him to train at the facilities of the club, but doesn't stipulate if he is part of the group or not.
Alone at the gym
Alone running on the pitch
Alone with the ball

Not registered for any competition,
No jersey number,
Not part of any matchday squad

PS:
@DeadlineDayLive 42m
Barcelona are angry with the behavior of players who were told three months ago to look for another team and are still at the club.
In particular, they are very angry with Martin Braithwaite.
@ffpolo

Yeah, make it happen

You can't look for another club if you are paid 3m net to live in Barcelona and you are a 30 years old average player who would struggle to even play for Celta Vigo. These players are too well-paid and too average to attract interest from a serious club for anywhere near the same money.

Question is; does the club even accepts that?
I think this is huge part of the problem tbf.

Let me explain:

People have been quoting capology for salary of player, I don't believe any site has accurate data of salaries but for ease of discussion let's assume it is accurate
https://www.capology.com/club/barcelona/salaries/

So Martin Braithwaite earns 6M gross salary, seems ok right? Not that much in comparison to Barca salay.

BUT

Most of our players has their market in Spain mainly, they stayed there for years, possibly had their best success there, and usually Liga clubs make the most sense to move there. This is usually the case for most big clubs in top leagues anyway.

So let's take a look at some Liga clubs:
Celta: Denis is paid around 4.8M, but second highest is Aspas at 2.6M. No way a club like that make Martin a better paid player.

Espanyol: Raul De Tomas is highest paid at 2.7M, again no way they pay more for Braithwaite.

Getafe has Djene at 2.2M, Mallorca top earner is less than 1M, Osasuna at 1.5M, Rayo at 1.2 etc

Now slightly richer clubs like Betis has Fekir at 6.7 but 2nd best paid at 4.2

Sociedad is even worse, highest at 4.4M

Valancie only 2 players above 4M.

Only 2 clubs that pay 6M as normal salary outside of big 3 is Seville and Villarreal.

So basically, unless those 2 are interested, the truth is the regular rate for a player like Braithwaite is around 2.5M at best. If you extremely lucky you get a club willing to pay him 4M.

Thing is, even outside of Spain isn't better. Outside of CL clubs that doesn't want him, only EPL clubs can pay that rate and even then most lower half of the table clubs will be making him top 5 or 6 earner to get him. And probably no one there wants him.

So basically, our previous board paid him like a top player in a team that is top 6 in Spain, when he was a top player in relegated team. The gap is almost 3 times the salary.

Can't blame the board for asking him to leave, can't blame him for wanting his money, can't blame other clubs for not wanting to pay him. :bartomeu:

Brilliant analysis. It's 100% true. I agree with everything you have said. The undeserved high salaries of Barcelona players come from Bartomeu's reign and now is almost impossible to get rid of them. Barca will ask Martin to agree to reduce his salary by 40 - 45 %. He of course will refuse. Barca will try to deal him away, and he will of course refuse again. The only hope is some rich Saudi or Qatari club to offer him the same or even better wages to get him there. Otherwise, we are tied with him for two more years.

lol this guy is insanely wealthy anyway with his property empire. Just accept a reduction in your part time job at Barca!

Can someone explain what does it mean to terminate contracts financially? If it's just paying the remainder of the contract then that's just a bigger win for the player.

Player can sue, and court will take his side in getting his money.
The catch for the player however is that he can't benefit financially from it, so if a player join a new club what he is paid there is removed from the club who terminates his contract
It is also said the new club can't pay him minimum for it, old club can say it is fraud and sue.

For example, if Barca basically fire Martin Braithwaite. He has 12M remaining.
If he joins Celta as a starting attacker. Usually those paid around 2M. So basically Barca pay 4M annually and Celta pays 2M.
If Celta pays him half million, Barca can go to court and ask for investigation. Saying Celta and Braithwaite are taking advantage of them.

Overall it is very messy situation that no party really wants. And usually used as a last ditch threat

Club can't terminate his contract what so ever without paying the full amount. Only one winner and that's Martin. He will get paid 80-90% just before the club needs to register players and then sign for a new club
