Montoya isnt wanting to leave because he is third choice, it is because he is not first choice.

Had Douglas never arrived at the club and Montoya played the minutes he has then he would still be wanting to go.

Montoya wasn't first choice last year either. Or the year before that. He's leaving because he's undeservedly behind some third rate Brazilian league player.

His agent has said he wants to leave as not first choice.

Had he played the same minutes as Douglas this season things would be no different.

Previous seasons are largely irrelevant as he has never been better than Alves and was getting quite a lot of minutes. Even then he did think of going.

Except that Alves isn't getting any younger and there is a ban coming up. So being second choice would mean him becoming first choice eventually. This is not the case however, since even if Alves retired today Douglas and Adriano would be ahead of him.

The RB position has been a mess with none of the coaches looking at life after Alves.

He has been left to feel that he is back up and to become first choice for the last two seasons. Being told that year after year doesnt cut it.

Last season he was second choice and got much more minutes than a back up normally would yet still considered his future.

Had Montoya got the minutes Douglas has this season he would want to go.

Listen to his agent he has said Montoya signed on for this season thinking he could become first choice.

Three seasons of not being first choice is worse than one or two.

It makes a big difference.

That is also a factor. The lad's not getting any younger. He's 23 already; how long is he going to want to sit on the bench if he has any real ambitions?

Montoya stayed this season to become first choice. Simple as that.

He didnt stay in the hope of another season as a back up.

Douglas being at the club has changed next to nothing in Montoya wanting to go.

Also, Lucho is not rotating in the RB and LB spots. Alba and Alves are playing day in day out, except the failed Mathieu experiment on the left. You could accept playing as a sub if you bag 30-35% of the games in a season. But with the way Lucho's doing, you could expect Alba and Alves to play 90% of the games this season. Douglas himself won't get many minutes.

Thats what I am saying. Even if Montoya was considered the second choice RB he would still be wanting to leave.

He would be facing a third season as back up on less minutes than before backing up a declining Alves.

Either way the blame for him leaving falls down to Lucho

Lucho is blamed for every bad thing on this forum (or just everything people disagree with, people who of course would be much better suited to coach Barça and much more knowledgeable in almost every aspect of football), tomorrow he'll be responsible for cancer and AIDS.

His agent just said this today.

Carrasco (agent Montoya): "Since he talked with Luis Enrique, he knows he has to leave. Our position is firm. We want a transfer in January"

Carrasco (agent Montoya): "Even if the club would change their mind and ask him to stay, the player wouldn't want to stay at Barça." [rac1]

This is definitely on Lucho, and it's a damn shame.

Montoya may not be the world class RB that Barca requires but he is the ONLY RB in the first team with any sort of potential to be good. Isolating him from the team and telling him to gtfo is about the stupidest management decision ever seeing as the only other options are a woeful way past it Dani Alves, injury prone Adriano and Douglas who speaks for himself.
