But what did you find impressive there? I felt Rafinha could do better.

I don't like Rafinha at all.
He is just dribbling and running like a headless chicken in attack.

His positional play is horrible and I am not too sure about his vision.

I am from Croatia, like some other guys from this thread.
I am not buying a hype about Croatian players.
But I do "believe" in Modric, Rakitic and Kovacic.

For example, I have watched Kovacic and Halilovic 1000s of times.
I have a lot of faith in Kovacic, and I personally have zero to 1% faith in Halilovic, for example...

Imo, he could be equally as good player for Barca as Rakitic, but on a slightly different position (more like Iniesta).

Kovacic clearly shows he is more intelligent than his teammates in this game. His movement in space and decision making is very good. He has a great knack for gliding past a player when he feels for it, just by a turn of pace.

I don't agree sadly, I belive more in Alen than Kova...If he comes I hope I'm wrong with all my heart but no, I just don't see Kovacic making it here

I haven't seen much from him, but in this game he is playing very well in a reserved CM role. He's composed and calm on the ball, and has shown some quick vision with his forward passing.

I don't think that Kovacic is a player that we should be looking to buy unless we buy a proven midfielder along with him.

He has shown glimpses of his talent for Inter but he is apparently not very consistent. I honestly can't see why he should be much more superior than the likes of Rafinha, Sergi Roberto etc.

I much rather buy Óliver Torres, Much more.

Also I don't believe that Inter will be able to sell him for more than 30 million euros. The number (70 million euros) that some user mentioned in this thread is just batshit insane.

Ok, mate, fair answer (I know that you know Kova well, too)

That is the thing I like the most about Kovacic.
I personally "hate" somewhat stupid players with a low footballing IQ like Deulo, Adama, Alba etc.
Kovacic is showing the level of IQ somewhat in Xavi/Iniesta/Messi level.

The guy is just very smart, he isn't problematic in any way (something like a schoolboy Xavi/Iniesta type of personality), his technique/passing/vision is very, very good.
Plus, imo, he is slightly more similar to Iniesta than Verratti or Gundogan and in Croatia he is usually an Amc when we play Modric-Rakitic-Kovacic midfield.
So, he is the most attacking out of these 3 players, let's say it that way (exactly like Iniesta).

But again, not everything is perfect.
And he seems to have some confidence issues for now (ok, he is young, maybe he will improve) and he is playing hot and cold (again, he is young).
If he could be more consistent, get more confidence and get slightly more "balls/courage" over time, he would have everything needed to be the next Iniesta, or close to him.

Not looking impressive at all. He's just as overrated as Gündoğan on here.

Problem is that I don't think that many (if any) actually follow Gundogan/Kovacic/Pogba/Verratti game in and game out. Consulting video games, random hype and youtube highlight clips is not the way to go.

The little I have watched from all of these players, I think that not one of them is equal to their hype.

If we are talking about football IQ and clever decisions on a football pitch, you won't find a better player than Óliver Torres. He is basically a carbon copy of a young Xavi. He almost never plays a bad game apparently if we are to believe Porto fans, ratings out there etc. I have followed him for years in the Spanish underage teams and he always looked like a special player. His passing, movement, intelligence is up there with the best of the game already. Of course in his age group. Only Verratti is comparable if you ask me.

According to many sources we have a first option on him as part of the deal with Villa. We basically gifted El Guaje away. He is a self-declared culé too.

The problem is that Atlético are unlikely to sell him.

I would not be against us buying Kovacic as he is definitely talented but he should be bought alongside an established midfielder that can replace Xavi more or less immediately. If we buy Kovacic we will not buy other young midfield talents such as Óliver Torres or Tielemans.

I think only Pogba is unequal to his hype. Verratti is as good as touted and Gundogan before his injury was actually underrated. Can't speak on Kovacic as i haven't see much of him, but I also haven't seen that much hype surrounding him.

Speaking of Torres, how is he doing in Porto? But I tend to agree with @Leo Messi, if we buy a big name and a future talent maybe we should look a bit more

But some people talk about Pogba fetching an 80m to 100m pricetag? Isn't that overrating him? While he is very good, I get the sense that people seem to have convinced themselves that he is excellent. As for Gundogan, it matters not one iota how good he was before his serious injury. What matters is how good/bad he has been since that.

As for Verratti, who is also definitely very good, I have seen lots of people on here claiming that he is some kind of Xavi and Mascherano all rolled into one. Well, I have to see that before I believe any of it.

The price tags are not the same as how people rate them as players though. Price tags depend on remaining length of their current contract, their current wages and other factors.
