He'd be a great replacement for Pique skill wise but Pique is our own world class waka waka boy who doesn't need to be replaced. Hummels and Pique wouldn't work together - too similar. Pique needs a hard tackling and a fast guy with him to be at his best... or rather - Barca needs because of our style. Hummels + Pique in PL would probably work. Not here.

You shouldn't even be talking about replacing Pique. Hummels is just 2 years younger and Pique is just 29.

While it will need some adjustments I think it will work perfectly .at least more than any other alternative mentioned in the media (Laporte/Stones/Mustafi etc) .Just like having Mathieu on a good day works gr8 alongside Pique
Both of them are pretty fast for CB btw and both has gr8 awareness and understanding for the game
That said ,with the team age our CB signing need to be a bit younger
While I don't mind signing better player at his prime over the younger player . it is really dangerous to have most of the team with same age .Players like Suarez/Messi/Arda/Pique/Rakitic/Busquets/Alba were all born between 1987&1989 just like Hummels .
Considering that Mascherano/Iniesta/Alves are actually much older too .it won't be perfect to have the whole team from same age interval .
I won't be upset if we ended up with him though.gr8 player & gr8 fit

That's why I said that Pique doesn't need replacing. Should've added the age difference to there, was just bit too lazy for that.
Don't agree with that. Both are on the slowish side. Mathieu and Pique work because Mathieu is one of the fastest players in the team.
Ofcourse if we change the system than we can make them both work, but Masche usually plays as a DM even as a CB, it gives us an edge at midfield. And when defending, his pace and hard tackling get us out of trouble a lot.
Tbh, I wouldn't mind Hummels, but he's a tad too pricey imo.
