Who would you view as a solid CB apart from Dante?

Thiago Silva (#1 by far).

He's also a risk, as Marquinhos. I'd rather have someone more experienced. Ideally, hummels(or vertonghen/kompany) and martinez/marquinhos should be signed.

Sometimes you need to take risks. Jordi Alba was also a risk.

Anyway It's up to the Barcelona staff in the long run. If they sign Hummels then fine - but it could backfire.

There are plenty of slow defenders and not once did they get caught on the counter tonight or the previous games against Madrid.

Vidic, Terry etc are all not the quickest but positioning makes up for that.

Our CBs can be as far as 40 meter away from the goal, No club in the world plays a high-defensive line like we do, And positioning won't count for much if someone played an over the top ball.
A combination of speed and height, Can make a big difference even if the player is not an expensive world class type.

Much better but not quite as good as a fully fit Kompany. He is slow and way too soft. I know he has the physicality but he doesn't use it!

I disagree abut him not being physical is a weakness, great defenders don't have to resolve to out muscle his opponents, he does not use it as he never gets himself in a situation where he has to use it

How many of the goals last night were caused by the defensive line being on the half way line?

Pique is not any faster than Hummels and he has coped. It is other areas that he has gone missing on.

I'd say Kompany and maybe Vertonghen are better options than Hummels (since Hummels is too similar to Pique), but while Martinez and Marquinhos do have potential, we need someone more experienced. So Hummels is a better option than them (though they might be better options if they were more experienced).

Kompany looked far poorer in the CL the last couple of seasons than Hummels has. He could not cope at all against the directness of Real Madrid.
