How fast is Inigo Martinez? If he's fast then Hummels+Inigo Martinez with Pique in his deserved place on the bench can work ?

I'd give Martinez 8 out of 10 for pace.

No. I clearly said Hummels is at this moment > Martinez. People can't see the bigger picture though. It's also about adapatation as well. Plus Martinez is as close to Puyol as Barcelona will get. He has been fantastic for Sociedad. The guy is no mug.

There is no perfect CB in today's game. There are stars for the future (Varane, Marquinhos), there are players that are "slow" but solid (Hummels, Vertonghen, Subotic etc..) AND there is Thiago Silva ( Only a wet dream for us at this point)

Yes, Just like our best defender ever was so gentle. In case you haven't noticed Puyol is a fighter. And even though he isn't so big he tries to out muscle his opponent. You don't "DEFEND" with gentleness. Quit all this positive football crap defending means protecting at all cost!

Agree but Vertonghen is much faster than Hummels. He would be perfect with Pique

If adaptation was an issue, we wouldn't have players like Abidal and so many other non-spanish speaking greats. That's no reason to pick an inferior player. Hummels speaks fluent English btw.

Adaptation is an issue. Various players have the old homesickness.

No it does not mean gentlesnes it means he is very accurate and precise with his positioning which the defenders have like Maldini was who hardly actually ever really had to tackle in a game but his positioning use to make him such a good defender.

Vertonghen is also a great choice, but doesn't come across as a leader. Pique is bad with Puyol right now and utter rubbish without him. Hummels is a leader.
