Vertonghen is also a great choice, but doesn't come across as a leader. Pique is bad with Puyol right now and utter rubbish without him. Hummels is a leader.

Vertonghen can lead a defence as well. But stop looking for a Puyol like figure. It wont be easy to find a leader like him again

 Now your just clutching at straws

Nah. C Ronaldo was "homesick" for a warmer climate i.e. Madrid. Cesc was "homesick" for Barca., Tevez, Navas, Balotelli etc. Hummels would be only German on the team. I've been over all this before...

This is without taking the "slowness" of Hummels as well as the price tag into account.

Kompany's a leader too. How fast is he? I think he could be perfect if he's fast (though he hasn't had the best season...).

Vertonghen has looked a bit suspect when faced with fast technical players.

In the two legs against Basle he was a nightmare and dragged everywhere.

I think people are building him up far too much.

No it does not mean gentlesnes it means he is very accurate and precise with his positioning which the defenders have like Maldini was who hardly actually ever really had to tackle in a game but his positioning use to make him such a good defender.

Maldinin hardly tackled? Did you ever watch Maldini play? Or are we talking of 2 different players? BTW, no one, I repeat no one can be as accurate as you are making it sound except of course he is KompanyhummelspuyolramosZEUS!

None of them suffered from home sickness. They all wanted either wanted to move to either their dream club or because they wanted to play.

Cesc - says London is the greatest city in the world.
Ronaldo - loves Manchester and has stated it
Balotelli - stated he can see himself moving back to Man City one day and left to get football.

Your points are not valid.

Yeah we are, maybe I phrased it wrong he was more of a elegant player the kind that followed 'gentleness' way of defending be accurate with the tackles none of that reckless stuff which you want from a defender e.g Vidic vs Torres duels from 2007-2010 where Vidic trying to make it a physical game and in the procedure getting owned left right and centre

Actually Ronaldo stated that he doesn't like living in Manchester because his house was too small and was told he couldn't have pets!

Balotelli said it was too boring!

I follow the city boards closely.

It was not the reasons they left and both have said they can see themselves going back. They were not in any way 'homesick' and left for other reasons.

Maldini wasn't gentle. He wouldn't bundle you over or rough handle you, but he would be tough on you. Hummels is so soft in his tackles its almost like a pillow tackling its oponent. Alll he ever does is stick out his legs. Ever wondered why Subotic was handed the responsibility of policing Ronaldo tonight?

I never said they were homesick. I agree thats not why they left. They just didn't like the City. Remember Balotellis infamous I love Mancity shirt? That was a clear indication.
