Mats Hummels

Hummels is exactly that. Sometimes I feel that people think defenders who are good on the ball are like Piqué so they prefer those who just hoof the ball every time they get it even if it means the death of our playing style.

Mangala and Balanta are both overrated and the former would be very hard to get.

Fine if people here want two ball playing defenders, but I prefer a stopper and a builder above that pairing. And no, that doesn't mean hoofing the ball and kicking it towards the stand at every chance you get.

He's been the best player in nearly all of the matches he played in, since coming back from his injury. Looks like the old Hummels again.

He would be the absolutely first choice if we have to replace Pique.
But we have to replace Puyol/Mascherano, we dont need a defender with silmilar profile to Pique.

Not only his defending, but his passing and ability to start play from the back really impressed me yet again. I don't watch the BL, so last time I saw him in action was last seasons CL campaign, and he seems to have kept the same brilliance in defence and actually grown a bit in his passing game as far as I could tell. Watching him own Benzema in the air to clear a ball made me think about how Mascherano got completely physically bullied in a similar situation where Benzema scored in the clasico...

I think he's perfect for Barca, he has all the quality needed, and he has now faced our arch rival many times and gotten a sort of el clasico experience through the CL. Him and Bartra could be a really great combination I think - Bartra is the one who runs up and commits to a challenge, while Hummels plays it more safe and just marks players into anonymity.
