And I don't understand why people are so uptight about the money, it's not your money they're spending..? And a CB is our priority, so it's not as if we'll be skimping on something else important if we spend big on Silva.

Agree. And about the wages, I can see him being willing to take a paycut. First of all, he's said that he's a Barca fan. Second of all, he'll have a good shot at winning the CL if he joins Barca. And isn't Ibra rumored to be willing to take a paycut to leave PSG? If Ibra goes, I can see Silva being willing to take a paycut to leave as well (coz PSG will be weaker and all).

Sorry but this makes zero sense.

How so? The only reason I can think of why people would be reluctant to the club spend so much, is if they skimp on another transfer. But as I've said in the following sentence, a CB is our top priority, so even if we were skimping on something else, it wouldn't be something important. We also need a forward, and Neymar is apparently a done deal, so I don't see the problem.

Calm down, it's only a discussion - none of the money spent on transfers belongs to us.

We all have opinions, and are all different. Vive le difference as they say.

I really believe that ALL of the money should go on a top class CB and perhaps a young up-and-comer, as well as a top class Striker, but if Neymar is already a done deal, Barca will deal with it.

So you wouldn't mind if Barça goes bankrupt in a few years and turn into Rangers 2.0?
And if you're a soci it actually is your money since you own a small part of the club. Rosell is just the representative of the members, he isn't using his own money to support the transfers.

No one said to spend more than our transfer budget in order to buy players, but if we can use those 50mil plus potential income from other transfers to buy Thiago Silva, then in my opinion we should go for it, because we really really need a defender that fits his profile.
Also, socis pay their annual fee, no matter what transfers we make. It is not like Rosell will give you back your money if we end up with Botia for 5 mil.

That is true, but the statement was "who cares.. it's not your money they're spending" not that we're just spending our transfer budget. Obviously we won't spend more than we can afford. At least that's what I hope.
I also didn't say anything about receiving money :s It's not like supporters expect to make money from becoming a soci. It was just an argument to show that we are allowed to care about how the club's budget is spend. Saying we shouldn't bother about it is just a ridiculous statement to make.

The club is not going to go bankrupt because of one somewhat overpriced transfer. The business part is going better than ever, and as far as I know, we're slowly but surely dealing with our debt. Hell, go back and count the absolutely catastrophic transfers we've done in the last decade, yet we're still here. And not bankrupt. Obviously, the club won't be spending more than they can, and they're obviously not skimping out on a deal for a forward if they're getting Neymar, so I still don't get why anyone would care if Silva is overpriced. As long as we're getting good players that we need and we're not missing out on other transfers because of spending a lot on them, what's the problem? I could understand if someone complained about a player being expensive and not very good, but I don't understand the logic in "he's the best, but it's a lot of money". It's not your money. Most of us here are not socis, so I don't understand why you would even bring that up.

Inigo Martinez + Hummels = ~40M = Thiago Silva

I prefer the former option, but Thiago Silva + Inigo Martinez is the best (but not really realistic).

Sell Pique and buy both. How did Shakira approve his haircut? He looks like a 7-year-old.

Now look at Hummels, dat facial hair :worthy:

Out of the 2, I'd take Hummels over Silva. If we're going to spend 35 Mil on a CB then Hummels is the only investment we can see some return on... He can play for the next 10 years at the highest level while Silva only has a few more top level seasons (assumption here due to the many nagging injuries he picks up) and his value is only going to go down now.

But we really shouldn't go for either defender. Pique and Hummels are too alike. We should only get Mats if Pique is on his way out.
Instead we should be looking to get a Puyol type CB like Marquinhos, Juan (Inter), Subotic, Inigo Martinez

Many seem to think Inigo is an easy target and set the price at 10 million. But he signed a contract extension until 2017 and has a buy out clause of 30million. I don't see Sociedad selling him for anything less than that, especially if they qualify for CL. So inigo and Hummels together won't happen.

Marquinhos is a special talent, for an 18 yr old, he's been outstanding this year. Would love it if we went for him, though his slender frame and weakness in the Air is the biggest problem. but if we could Hummels to partner him and snatch both for under 50 million, that would great. Since that's pretty much our transfer budget and also our main priority, anything else from player sales can go for Neymar, who i really don't want to see here, but can see it happen.
