Matthijs de Ligt

A few years ago, players would die to move to Barcelona and offer a pay cut to join us because of the way we play football and how we go and challenge the biggest trophies.

When did this ever happened? Who did it?
I mean looking to our transfers year by year:
2018: Malcom? no, Vidal? no, Arthur? no, Lenglet? still no. Coutinho? Hell no
2017: Dembele? lol, he got huge pay raise, Paulinho,Semedo,Deulofeu? again, no
2016: Gomes, Paco,Digne,Denis all didn't sacrifice any money to join here, same with Umtiti . Pogba turned us down because of money.
2015:Arda & Vidal? lol
2014: Bravo,MATS,Suarez & Raki all got significant pay rise, Mathieu sacrificed 3M to join us on paper, but he was still getting paid better than he was on Valencia, no other club was interested than him
2013: Neymar, hell no. He milked us along his dad, and that is the main reason this man joined us.
2012: Song  & Alba, again hell no. OTOH T.Silva gave us the middle finger when we refused to make him 2nd best paid player after Messi (over Xavi & Iniesta) , which blatantly contradict your statement.
2011: Cesc & Alexis got huge pay raise, no other club was offering them more money. so again, no.
2010: Mascherano? Keita & Villa? again, all with increased salaries, better city (in case of Mascherano)
2009: Neither Ibra or Chygrynskiy took pay cuts
2008: Hleb,Caceras,Pique, Alves etc were all paid well. Not 100% sure Pique was offered more than Manu tbf.
2007: Again, none of Yaya,Henry,Abidal Milito took pay cuts, OTOH Cristian Chivu turned us down because we offered lower wage.
2006: Thuram & Zambrotta were aging players in a relegated club, we came with biggest offer. GG was also well paid.
The only time I remember players taking pay cuts was in 2003 when Laporta told them either take less or leave, and the likes of Kluivert and Puyol accepted that.
May be I am missing something here, but I don't remember a real possibility for a player to take more money elsewhere and turned it down for us, at most he accepted less than what he wanted, but was a still the most he can get. On contrary there are cases of players turning us down for money or milking us like Ibra & Neymar etc.

Overwhelming majority of players has been choosing money over anything else for half century, they try to sugarcoat it but it is the truth. I won't blame them since asking someone who is one of the best in his trade to take pay cut so a multi-billion institution benefit more from him is silly anyway.

Paulinho took a salary cut to come here.

He took a pay cut to play under Valverde.

George said that in the past a lot of players were doing everything to come here.
I also don't remember that.

They came here because we were always paying a fortune. Ok, and we offered a sporting project.
But still, we were offering insane wages to everyone.

First, when I said a few years ago I meant before 2017.

Not sure why are you listing players post UCL humiliations and post Bartomeu weak leadership?

Second, many of the players that you have listed and used to get paid high salaries in their previous clubs took a pay-cut and even announced it in the media like Cesc for example, Mascherano, took a pay cut too. I suggest you do your research before posting misinformation.

Third, some players you have listed would naturally get a pay raise because:

A. They are coming from much smaller clubs and used to get paid below average in comparison with big clubs salaries, so an increase in their salaries won’t necessarily make them the best-paid athlete in their position.

B. Most of them are experienced, not raw talent who ask to get paid an equivalent to WC player salaries.

C. Everything is relative,

if the average salary in FC Barcelona 8-10m, you don't expect players to be happy getting paid 2-3m knowing that some other players who aren’t as good are getting paid 3 times their salary.

So yes, Barca had a big sporting appeal for a decade (from 2006-2016), De Ligt would have joined for half of what he is asking now under Pep era. If the project is appealing, players would not ask to get paid 10 times what they currently earn (in case of De Ligt), if what you said is true, 99% of the players would move to China or Qatar because they will choose money over the sporting project as per what you said.

Juve want to pay 85 mil for De Ligt according to Tuttosport.
And Nedved and Raiola are good friends.

Don't sleep Barto!
If you want him... better not wait to long

We are not upping our offer. The ball is totally in De Ligt’s court.

He wants to play for Barcelona, but will not accept the 75 mil euro offer. His agent Riola is a criminal and the biggest manipulator in Europe. He probably has suggested Matthijs to wait for two reasons:
1. Until his ban from UEFA is over, so he can get his commission.
2. After the Europe Nations Tournament, where Netherlands will participate, the market price of De Ligt will goes up.
Bartomeu has announced that Barca will not raise the offer. So there is no need to wait for his answer. Manchester Utd. and Juventus are offering more money and the Dutchman likely will take their offers. Our management has to look for another options to stabilize our defence. Matthijs De Ligt is probably the second best defender in Europe, after Virgil Van Dijk, but out there are many other.

Paying 85 million euro for a 19 y.o. is not what we want. I know, many of you will say that you can not go wrong with this youngster, but hey, he is still 19. Can you imagine how much money he will demand 4-5 years from now. Unfortunately, there is always stupid managers and presidents like Anielli, who will pay that price.

this saga is getting boring. i know hes an amazing, generational CB talent but i just cant get THAT excited over a defender as opposed to a forward/midfielder

thats a good point above about De Ligt waiting for the Raiola ban to end. i was wondering why the kid wasn't already at United with the astronomical wages they were offering. totally expecting Raiola to go in there swinging his dick around demanding even more money for his agent fee

I rather we get a high potential/already worldclass ST to phase Suarez out next season - bar the Anfield fuck up our defense hasn't been that bad with Pique-Lenglet partnership and imo a decent striker is much more important right now) as long as De Ligt doesn't go to Madrid or PSG we can always come knocking in a few years, probably 100mil+ by then

Have you seen the difference a top class CB (VVD) has made to Liverpool?

The over the top praise for this guy is just getting ridiculous now , hes 19 and we all know he could fail big time at Barca , just like many supposed superstars have in the past.
Add to that the fact he has the biggest shyster greedy agent on the planet whos out to fill his bank account again , I would give this boy a miss. To even consider playing at Man Utd or PSG over Barca tells you all hes interested in is cash as usual with todays players.

First, when I said a few years ago I meant before 2017.

Not sure why are you listing players post UCL humiliations and post Bartomeu weak leadership?

I wanted to cover all basis, as I don't know which years do you consider few

Second, many of the players that you have listed and used to get paid high salaries in their previous clubs took a pay-cut and even announced it in the media like Cesc for example, Mascherano, took a pay cut too. I suggest you do your research before posting misinformation.

B. Most of them are experienced, not raw talent who ask to get paid an equivalent to WC player salaries.

C. Everything is relative,

Neither Mascherano or Cesc took pay cuts
Mascherano didn't even move because of our sport project, he was equally interested in joining his old coach Benitez at Inter, but we made best financial offer for everyone involved.
Cesc didn't take pay cut either, the most he did was accepting to lower the "agreed" wage, huge difference since without doing that, he won't get paid by us, will get the lower wage he is getting in Arsenal and won't move. That isn't a pay cut at all.

And them "announcing it in the media" is a pure bs, as I've already said, those players sugarcoact their decisions. Neymar said he turned better money when he joined us, then he said he didn't join PSG for money
How many times have you seen a player say" I am here because you guys made the biggest financial offer" ?

If we accepted MDL demands and offer him more money than Manu, do you think he won't come here and say" I could have got more elsewhere"?
Come on now, you aren't that naive.

f the average salary in FC Barcelona 8-10m, you don't expect players to be happy getting paid 2-3m knowing that some other players who aren’t as good are getting paid 3 times their salary.

No, MDL wasn't gonna take pay cut to play for Pep, as I said so far no one did unless I am believing players blatant lies. Raiola and Pep hated each other, and his agents taking pay cuts is a rare scene. MDL is a player who said EPL is his dream, hired Raiola and is clearly wanting money, Man City isn't even an option for him and hasn't been even before the FFP talks. Why he isn't sending his agent to them to tell them he is taking pay cuts to play for them? why he isn't doing it for Liverpool? Aren't those the best sporting projects this days? He is offering his clients to his favorites Man City & PSG, none who have a better project over Barca.
And China & Qatar don't offer more salaries than Europe, not a single player in top 10 best paid players are out of Europe. They are still bigger football markets than those countries who have to accept over paying some players to join.

Of course he is, wouldn t you be?

Board has made an offer and they are sticking with it, even though he received better ones. So for him it s a choice between more money or club he supposedly wants to play for. He will be rich in both cases.
I don t care which agent he has, the choice is ultimately his.
