Not quite as dramatic as made out.

Koeman told him he need to play and would be better off on loan as young players need minutes and he has a future at club.

Koeman: "Riqui Puig? I spoke to him yesterday. In my opinion, young players have to play: Riqui, Alena, Pedri... I told him that it will be difficult for him to play regularly, but I also told him that he has a future here. A loan deal could work for him. I recommend Riqui to leave on loan because a young player like him has to play"

Koeman is right that Puig has to play more in order to improve. However, I still don't understand why Puig has to leave on loan while totally useless Alena gets to stay?!

I'm really upset by this whole thing, but in some way I can understand Koeman's position (although not completely).

From a fan point of view of course we want him to come in and play the kids, but he's in a very unique and difficult scenario - if Barcelona don't at least compete this year, he'll be gone for sure because Font is looking for any excuse to replace him with Xavi. So he has to try and win now, and that means gambling on developing youth products isn't necessarily something he can do. I don't think Alena will get significant playing time this year either, but it is bizarre to keep him ahead of Puig who on the face of it has so much more talent.

Fingers crossed our special boy can hang in there and come back next year ready to take the reigns in midfield.

It would be more he doesnt rate Puig as highly as a lot of the fans seem to.

Fati and Trincao are both younger and will be part of squad with good minutes. So too may Pedri.

This is pretty logical. Puig needs to play regularly. Alena is ok as a 5th midfield option for a season.

Also, it's not so much a decision between Alena and Puig that it is betwen Pedri and Puig. Koeman seems to rate Pedri higher (and I also believe he has much higher potential) and thinks he can contribute more to the team this season. He's also more versatile and can play on the wings as well.

So far all the resident forum clowns can only shit on Puig for things he might "hypothetically" suck at because of his size. Nothing for what he's actually done on the pitch, which is fit in like a glove offensively and be one of the hardest pressing dogs in the whole team.

Shame on those people here, and their entire understanding of the sport lol. Saying he's not even worth a 10m player or would get benched at Betis. The same mouths who at points were calling Rakitic for a world class player because of his 2km/h pace and sideways passes... lol

Also lol considering how many people in this forum were praising "The Koemannder" 2 days in saying he's a revolutionary coach and wants to decapitate the amigos and bring life to the team, while Messi was holding us back and trying to undermine him.

The narratives here are just so delusional it's funny, just how far downhill the forum has gone over the years. Actually licking the boot and following the narrative that a guy like Barto and his hires have laid out on a platter for you. Just please open your eyes to who you're in bed with.

So a coach is rumored to make a decision regarding a player you like, and you come here to call out other members?

Lol, that OJO merchant making things look worse than they are.

That is the job of the media tbf, and actually kudos for him to get the rumor relatively right. He once was valued journalist with sources and then became a clown. Now it seems he has some source back.

Really, just what does Koeman see from Alena??

Alena had a better youth career than Puig tbh, it was last season post covid when Puig put himself ahead of Alena.
Alena is more physical player, and there are 3 possibilities here:
-Koeman sees Alena as a player who can change positions successfully based on his tools, which is usually long process for players.
-Koeman sees Alena as end of the bench player who doesn't have long term future here, while Puig would probably stall a future successful career here by not playing.
-Koeman simply didn't make a decision yet with Alena, or it wasn't leaked yet

Don't buy your point about physique. Alena honestly seems to get wrestled off the ball much easier than Puig. Also falls over quite often. It's not just about muscle mass, it's about muscle fiber type, balance, level of activation in psoas, diaphragm, transverse abdominals. Looking at weight or appearance alone tells you nothing.

Barcacentre isn't a news source, they track other sources.

Aye, they cherry pick all the worst rumours and misreport them. In the end you’re getting 3rd or 4th hand news from an aggregator. And people use it only out of convenience and laziness.

Don’t be dumb people. Unfollow it.

If you take it for what it is, then I don't see an issue. They don't pretend to report the truth. Not everyone has time to monitor individual primary sources..
