Memphis Depay

5 goals and 5 assists but 90% pass completion. Or 15 goals and 15 assists with 70% pass completion. What would you choose?

For Depay in Barcelona probably the former yes. Messi is the one who can be close to 70% (but I don't think he ever is, despite playing most difficultly)
The numbers are just an indication though, he could maybe even play great with 5 goals, 5 assists and 70% pass completion...

I think he should play pretty simple football, be running a lot, and then show good quality when it matters - he will get chances to score 15 and assist 15 for sure, even if he plays with a 90% success rate and don't force the shots every time he's close to the box (I think a good shooter is good for Barcelona, though)
But I think he wants to play too complicated and too forced, and I think he'll make too many mistakes.

Would it not be fair to say Griezmann was below par in his output for the first half of the season though? Should have reached 30+ altogether imo.

Griezmann had 9 goals and 4 assists in Liga in 1st year. So I would say my expectation of Depay are pretty realistic. Probably exaggerated even.
Only thing he has over Griezmann is he is more natural fit to left side than the French men

Expecting 20+ goals and 10+ assists is unrealistic. Not even Neymar had that and he came as an absolute superstar for a then near-record fee. This guy comes for free.

He could get that if he'd be the main focal point in the attack, but we all know most passes will go to Messi (for good reason). He'll take by far the most shots, attempt the most dribbles etc.

His competition will be the likes of Vinicius, Carrasco, Hazard, Angel Correa. Supporting strikers and wingers from rival teams. If he can produce more than these guys and help out in defense as well a bit, we're set.

I think we have the best attack in the league by a good margin if we manage to keep all of Messi, Griemann, Fati, and Depay.

Neymar arrived as a raw talent. Depay is arriving at the peak of his game with years of European football under his belt. 20 goals and 10 assists in all competitions is realistic imo. 10-12 in the league. 5 in copa considering the earlier rounds and I think it’s 2 legged games again? Plus a few against the group ucl teams. That gets you 20 goals.

The fee paid has little to do with expectations. If we signed Haaland for free would you expect 5 goals or 30?

If we can lock up Messi's extension and Memphis is able to make runs off the ball like a striker should then he's going to get a lot of chances to score.

It would be interesting to see KunA up front with Depay on the left and Braithewaite on the right and Messi just behind KunA

Nah, won't work. The lack of work rate among the front four would be depressing, and besides the 4-2-3-1 system isn't suitable for this current Barcelona team.

Bbz fully erect hearing this

Memphis Depay: "I don't care if they call me rebellious. In fact, I see it as something positive on the pitch. Would Su?rez have scored so many goals and raised so many titles if he were the sweetest guy on the pitch? I don't know why 'rebel' has negative connotations." [sport]

Depay trying to compare himself to Suarez.... lol. Depay, you're not even half the player Suarez was at his age. He scored all those goals and won that many titles because he was talented. Unfortunately, Depay hasn't shown enough to even make comments like that.

Depay will be decent and nick a goal or 2, but he's not going to be that great. The plus thing about the signing is, even if he plays like shit we can sell him next season and make some decent money from him.

Only a moron would have that take from the comment made by Depay.

In no way 'comparing' himself to ability of Suarez. You are trying too hard.

I just think it's a dumb comment from Depay. Fair enough if he said, "oh, I may not be the nicest guy on the pitch, but I'll definitely put in the effort and fight to help the team." The fact that he used Suarez as a comparison is dumb as hell. Suarez didn't score all those goals and won those titles because he was the nicest guy, he scored those goals and won those titles because he was super talented.
