Memphis Depay

I just think it's a dumb comment from Depay. Fair enough if he said, "oh, I may not be the nicest guy on the pitch, but I'll definitely put in the effort and fight to help the team." The fact that he used Suarez as a comparison is dumb as hell. Suarez didn't score all those goals and won those titles because he was the nicest guy, he scored those goals and won those titles because he was super talented.

i may be the only one in here that understands what you are trying to say.

yeah, depay's comparison was a bit off because there is nothing similar between their style of play. suarez bullied defenders in his prime and was a dirty bastard when he thought it would help him. suarez also had more drive and aggression. depay just isn't that kind of player. maybe only sporadically.

i think a stupid journalist asked him about his bad boy persona outside the pitch(is he really a bad boy?) and depay thought that comparing himself to a barcelona legend would suit the conversation. what is more funny is that suarez is as vanilla as someone can be outside the pitch. no monster parties, no cheating on his wife, a family man through and through.

Depay has never been the best at wording his thoughts. It becomes more obvious when you hear him in Dutch. Stumbles and sometimes has to look for the words. Also of the pitch is a saint compared to many players. Has never been involved in a scandal and not the party animal some people expect him to be. Comes across as an introvert to me who tries to be otherwise.

Anyway, think the only point he was trying to make that in the end results matter and not the image people have of you, using Suarez as an example.

Doesn't strike me as rebellious really, just got that flashy dress sense and he's a rapper where being a 'bad boy' is part of that image.

Not like he's a career criminal or a drug peddler

Incredible how his career turned out tbh. Flopped hard at United (he was absolutely terrible there), but became one of the best players in France and now he is at Barca. Would be a nice athlete success story if he made it here.

He didnt use Suarez as a comparison he used Suarez to show how good a player can be and how much having that attribute can be a postiive and not a negative.

Not comparing their ability at all and nothing but a tip of the hat to Suarez used as an example of how it can be a positive for some players to have that 'rebellious' side.

Folk jump on anything that is not there as desperate to see it and next it will be 'this is the guy that compared himself to Suarez' etc.

It is taking comment out of context to sensationalise it in a tabloid way.

Depay is the Dutch Jese pre injury. Take what you will from that

Why, just because they're both rappers?

Difference between them is Memphis didn't lose focus on football and used him flopping at United as a motivation to work harder and get a second chance at a big club which he'll get now.

Don't think Jese would ever make it. You can blame it on injury but after that torn ACL when he was 20 he never got seriously injured again. Sure, his development at that crucial age was stalled but if he'd stay serious and work hard he should still made a lot more out of his career than. When he left Madrid instead of going to PSG he should've probably take a step back and go to a smaller team to try and get his career back on track.

So most of Spanish press been praising his debut performance. Think they are taking a bit too far. But nuanced headlines don't sell so..

Nah just neither are very bright. Cosmopolitan folks. Both deserve sympathy, one had a selection of childhood traumas, the other ruined by injury, a bad taste in women and a sick kid. Besides it's not a problem being this way as long as you play OK. Dennis Rodman had his issues and was a legend. If Depay achieves half as much despite being a clown with a flurry of questionable takes and habits, fair play to him.

Depay trying to compare himself to Suarez.... lol. Depay, you're not even half the player Suarez was at his age. He scored all those goals and won that many titles because he was talented. Unfortunately, Depay hasn't shown enough to even make comments like that.

Depay will be decent and nick a goal or 2, but he's not going to be that great. The plus thing about the signing is, even if he plays like shit we can sell him next season and make some decent money from him.

You are being kind to Depay, he is not even a quarter of a player Suarez was at his age.

Any man in their prime 30 or 40 years ago would eat this '' bad boy'' for breakfast. He is just a wannabe. Wannabe bad boy, wannabe rapper, wannabe footballer. Sick that this muppets make so much money when they should sell hamburgers at MCDonalds.

for his defence, manu to that time was just horrible and it was very difficult for new players to adapt well. Even Di Maria flopped there.

The only thing I don't like about him is that he is a ball hog. There's room for that when Messi doesn't play, but when Messi plays, he'll need to find a way to impact games without touching the ball all the time. A bit less fiddling around with the ball trying tricks and flicks, and more running, more runs, basically less Neymar wannabe, more Pedro/David Villa - like.

If he can adapt to a role where he's not the star everyone gives the ball to try things, he'll be a solid transfer.
