Pep has played JDS more than Thiago if im not mistaken? so if anything Thiagos more of a fringe player

This is mainly because he had Keita to cover for Iniesta, but no one to rest Xavi. With Ozil, Pep would have an additional creative force to go with the promotion of Thiago. It would no longer be a weakness of the team. The only other hole to address would be #4 and potentially #6 cover. I'd wet my pants if it is Pirlo.

Pep still has Keita, and really likes him, so hee will continue to play him. If Ozil comes, Bye Bye Thiago IMO He will leave due to lack of 1st teeam football....

Keita was poor cover for Xaviesta last season, as he offers nothing like the creativity and playmaking ability of those two. He's likely to be cover for Busquets the way things are going. We do need a creative midfielder or two, it could be Ozil or the youngsters may get the chance.

Agreed, it scares me that some think Keita will be a reliable back-up. He had a great start to last season then was very ordinary to say the least

Keita is a decent player and thats it. He has no extraordinary skill what so ever. He isn't that great going forward, with the occasional decent ball and isn't that great at positioning either. He's ok defensively and isn't the best at passing quickly or distributing the ball under pressure. Overall he's a very average player besides that great, short start to the season he had last year. I like Ozil but with our front line he's not breaking into our 4-3-3 or even a 4-3-1-2 given it'd be the same players. He'd start as an attacking midfielder imo and only if Xaviesta isn't in, all three could play but one would have to drop back.... (not the worst idea considering how Iniesta is a glass cannon).

I don't think Keita would be the ideal defensive 3rd member of our midfield, Sergi being the obvious choice. To me it'd just make sense to transfer Keita, bring in Ozil as in an actual different/effective attacking midfielder option and just bring in a strict defensive midfielder. Buy someone who is GREAT at their jobs, not decent at everything. We got enough flexible players between Maxwell and now Adriano, not even counting JDS or Thiago.

For me its either JDS + Thiago or Ozil + defensive mid (transfer Keita) would be best for the team.

Hallo,
This is my first post in this forum but cocerning Oezil I can deliver a german point of view. There is maybe no question that he has the technical quality to play for Barca but what he lacks is mental strength. He plays well if everything is easy but if you have tough opposition he can't deliver. You could see it very clearly in the semifinal where he failed to make any impact. And ask any Bremen fan what they think about his last season, there were months when he was completly out of form, i can not imagine that this would be acceptable if he plays for Barca

@barcastuff "Guardiola has rejected the transfer of Ozil. [cadena ser]"

"There's a verbal deal with Ozil for 4 seasons, contacts with Werder Bremen (fee maximum 15M) but Guardiola prefers the youth players. [rac1]"

I am not big fan of Oezil, but 15m is not excessive me thinks...if it wasn't for the youngsters...then I would say bring him on...but our promising youth seriously complicates matters, plus the fact that we will again be after Cesc in the next transfer window...

Quoted for truth. Ozil is not needed at all. I can guarantee you guys that our youngsters can become better players than ozil. Plus, this really looks like to me another hleb type of situation. I think we are all getting a bit too excited about signing every young/skilled talent out in europe when there are great players in barca's own backyard...
