Nelson Semedo

Yeah put Roberto in Semedo's shoes in the second half when they were doubling up on him. at this point it doesn't matter if Roberto is better is better on the ball going forward, he would've have gotten shredded so easily arguably a lot worst than Semedo.

Did people forget last season that Roberto got shredded at the RB spot when it comes to defending?

People remember Roberto's run vs Madrid at 2-2 and not much else. Roberto is worse than Semedo in 1 vs 1s. Did more errors as well last season. Rakitic was completely shot in the 2nd half, gassed out, and poor Semedo was constantly overpowered there by the overlapping FB.

He looked exposed and shaky in the second half, was numerous times on 1 vs 2 with Valencia players. Doesn't seem to bring too much in attack either.

For sure, he has to improve a bit if he wants to be the undisputed choice regarding the RB spot.

Roberto got shredded by Real Betis last season. People talk as if Roberto or Vidal never got their asses handed to them.

Roberto was called for his defense when the support for him was way less.
Semedo has lost 1 vs 1, made wrong passes in our final third, wrong positioning and zero attacking influence today. he is being exposed big time.
He has the tools, but currently I don't think it is close between him and Roberto, the later is far better as RB atm.

Can't really blame Semedo for failing to defence numerous 1vs2 attacks. Someone from midfield must track the overlapping runs from Gaya or even the best RB would get burned

So was semedo and Roberto knows how to play going forward.

Semedos positioning has been shit for a bit now and does next to fuck all going forward.

Roberto is the better RB now easily.

Semedo is still way better than those two, who aren't even proper RB..

Vidal is winger and Roberto midfielder.

He didn't lose many 1 vs 1s. There were 1 vs 2s if you look at the plays. The fullback's run was not tracked. In this case the RB sticks with his man, denying him the inside, and lets the outside run because it is the least dangerous position to concede. We're already talking about damage limitation once Semedo was cought outnumbered. That's not on him at all.

I believe the difference between this and the Juve game was that in the Juve game he had Deulofeu helping him defesively, sometimes dropping as deep as him. Today he had noone, because Rakitić decided that he won't play defense. So, Semedo got destroyed by Guedes. I'd say he wasn't singlehandedly responsible for Valencia's goal, but he was responsible together with Rakitić and Vermaelen.

It also doesn't help that Messi is never passing to him when he is making the runs in final third (Messi is always searching for the Fatso in the middle, but those passes almost always fail. But if they come through, Fatso is in the offside or trips over the ball).

Lets be honest though. Roberto would have struggled massively in this game. Guedes is a sensational player and Raki is not offering any support.

They kept switching it out to Guedes who was in far too much room and Semedo just backed off him and did nothing really.
