No he isnt and has not been better than Roberto this season.

He looks totally lost going forward and all over the place positionally.

Roberto would be starting RB right now for good reason.

We saw it earlier this season and so on. Roberto gets destroyed vs big teams in 1vs1. Semedo is much stronger in those, because his speed and flexibility.

Semedo is superior defenseman compared to Roberto and Vidal, but offensively he is worse. He is still learning. Vidal and Roberto strengths are in offensive game bit they are not good defensively.

Roberto is absolutely not the answer at RB. At the moment Semedo isn't good enough true, uncomfortable in possession and offers nothing going forward. Yet for all that, I would persevere. He needs games/confidence/to acclimatise. Roberto should play RM if we're going to stick with 442, he's no RB.

He didn't lose many 1 vs 1s. There were 1 vs 2s if you look at the plays. The fullbacks run was not tracked. In this case the RB sticks with his guy and lets the outside run because it is the least dangerous position to concede.

Once Valencia realized he is our weaker point and attacked through him, he lost almost every dual their whether it was against 1 or 2. And in many cases he didn't even stick to his guy and left his side wide open.
Semedo atm has long way to go, I think he has all the potential in the world but we need to remember he has only 1 year of first team football experience before joining us. he is showing his limitations atm

They kept switching it out to Guedes who was in far too much room and Semedo just backed off him and did nothing really.

That's standard practice when the ball is in the other half of the pitch. The RB has to move more centrally to not allow passes being made between him and the RCB. Rakitic was fucking slow there in the transition, a lot and I mean a lot slower than Valencia's LB.

No he isnt Semedo backed off when had one on ones tonight and stopped little and was terrible going forward in second half.

He looks poor defensively unless pace can get him out of it.

He struggled in the second half but was hung out to dry by Rakitic on multiple occasions. Needed help vs Gaya who is a bullet and Guedes who is a rising player, and was getting none from Rakitic who was slow on the help.

Not only was Rakitic late on the goal, but when he finally got there he stopped tracking Gaya's run and just went to cover Guedes whom Semedo was already covering. So poor.

And the room you are talking about is courtesy of Ivan Rakitić.

Not really it was down to Semedo offering him too much room then backing off far too much.

If there was an overlap no one tracking can blame Raki and that did happen but Semedo positioning in defence was shit.

Yes. At least Rakitic could have tried to block the cross. He was abysmal in the 2nd half.

Of course bob has been okayish against pretty average opponents IMO. We've seen him get burned against really good teams with quick wingers. All three Vidal, Semedo and Bob have their pros and cons. In the final analysis you just have to go with Semedo for his defensive attributes. His attacking will come with more game time but sadly when you're trying to play with a guy like Raki on the right how much can you really do ?. Especially as a newcomer. You can't expect the guy to be a stud in every game, and even then he's still exceptional defensively compared to bob and vidal. I'll start him any day over those 2.

Dont agree would go with Roberto every time as it is just now.

Far superior going forward and Semedo not great defensively as you make out in my opinion. His positioning is awful at times.

Well Semedo looked decent early on in the season, was in and out of team, and yeah, has been poor recently. But last season Roberto showed himself to be nowhere near good enough. And even this season he's been defensively suspect. He's better on the ball than Semedo, true, but I see nothing to be gained in dropping our potentially long term RB in favour of someone who's proven himself deficient over the course of an entire season. (at RB that is. As a squad player I like him.) We need to be thinking long term.
