Nelson Semedo

I wouldn't be surprised if that was one of the reasons Rakitic was pulled off. Semedo didn't have a great second half obviously but Rakitic was pretty bad in regards to support.

Semedo has been excellent since he arrived in my opinion and has hardly put a foot wrong. I've been so impressed with him. He has everything needed to become one of the very best right backs in world football.

He was not at fault for Valencia's goal tonight. Rakitic was failing to help him cover that side of the pitch and he was left alone to try and mark two players which was obviously impossible. Vermaelen was at fault once the ball was crossed into the box.

Has he got stamina issues or something? Why does Valverde keep subbing him off!?

Because we played with 8 and half players in the minute 65.
(Luis Suarez hasn't played today, Semedo also hasn't played and Rakitic played 50%).

So, 1:1 is really a good result, considering that we played with 8 players (and got robbed for Messi's goal).

embarrassing stuff by Raki. And he does this all the time. Just totally unacceptable.

If you look closely there, Gomes stopped up and a Madrid player came to cover him. If you notice how Carvajal looks back, he sees that which allows him to follow the overlap.

Semedo should have probably done the same, but it's not really a comparable situation as Rakitic was nowhere near any of them. I think Semedo even pointed towards the overlap with Rakitic just standing there and watching. There wasn't even a player there, he just stood there and the way he looked back I think he knew he fucked up there right away.

Small things like this can fuck up the game.

Rakitic was covering the guy who had the ball, Semedo should have followed the overlap: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AC0Z5lmxJmU&t=32s min 0.54 (notice how Rakitic and Marcelo position are similar).

i didn't know well semedo when he played with benfica, because the portuguese league doesn't trasmitted on tv (at least in italy)...

after three months with barca i have to say he showed is worth...
great running and great ball control...
perfect purchasing to substitute dani alves...

in my opinion no fault yesterday for the valencia goal.

People who criticize his offensive ability don't really seem to understand how difficult it is to play wing back in a team that puts all its heart in attacking through the middle. He has so few options going forward it's crazy. Guy would have to beat several men in no space on his own to get a good cross in. Semedo would be immense playing in a system like Real's.

There's a guy who I follow on twitter who's trying his damn hardest to absolve Rakitic of the blame despite clearly being at fault as well.

seems like ever since people started mentioning Semedo being one the best RB's in the world, dude has had some weird axe to grind when it comes to Semedo, despite being a Barca fan and he's trying to single handedly blame everything that went wrong yesterday on him and even retweeting dudes who agree with him.

this isn't the first time he's done this, he's did this to Umtiti as well when you mention he has been much better than Pique this season and one of the best CB's the world he will get all mad and shit claiming Pique is still much better and will pick apart Umtiti for any little mistake he's done in a match to prove he's not all that.

He also seems to blast people who think Iniesta isn't the same player he once was.

This is 100% Semedo fault, I don't understand how can someone argue about this, and even trying to blame Rakitic wtf? The guy behind him was overlapping, you follow him, it cannot get more basic than that. Of course don't want to scapegoat anyone but that was a bad mistake, in the whole 95min they created 1 fucking attack, and this is how we are gonna drop 2 points...

Rakitic did fuck all in coverage during the second half yesterday before he was pulled. He was either wrongly positioned or way to late in trying to come in for help, was Semedo also at fault? Yeah but Rakitic also deserves a portion of the blame as well.

He did the same shit with Roberto last season as well. He was either slow to get back or nowhere near positioned enough to help Bob then as well.

I don't think Semedo had a good game, but I don't get how he's blamed for the goal. It's a simple 2 v 1, he was going to lose in any which way, with Rakishit just staring at them gliding past their man.

I think Semedo has shown potential and bright spots in games; far more than what Rakitic and Suarez have shown this season. Yet, Semedo is consistently punished for having a poor game, while mediocrity is rewarded with unlimited playing time for the guy who probably keeps a Maharaja Mac stuffed down his stockings.

Semedo needs some playing time to build up his rythmn. It can't help that he almost never has a run of games with one particular RW; sometimes its Deulofeu, sometimes it's Rakitic or Paulinho, and most times it's nobody. It's shocking to see people pining for Roberto, who is a fine player, but just go back and look at the Roberto forums at the end of last season. People were flaming him for not being anywhere CLOSE to good enough, and most posts said he should never play anywhere near RB again. And yet, here we are, with Roberto suddenly being our RB saviour.

I definitely think Semedo is better suited for RB, he has the pace and athleticism for it. He has shown he is good defensively (I thought he did a great job against Costa in Turin) and just needs a functioning RW to show his attacking potential. I am fairly confident most people here will be eating their words, sooner than later.

Guess we'll have to wait for Dembele to be back. The opposition FB cannot overlap and go on attack all the time with him on the wing. No team gives a shit about Deulofeu as they know he got one trick up his sleeve and it's not like Paco on the wing is very dangerous either.
