Nelson Semedo

While it's true he needs to improve going forward in some aspects it's not like his main competitor is some wizard going forward either.

The only thing Roberto really had on Semedo was his attacking contribution but since January that pretty much all but vanished. That assist was great for Suarez in the Classico but that was IMO the only notable thing he has done attacking wise in months.

I mean I might get shit for what I said above but Roberto lost pretty much most of the advantage he had on Semedo. and with Roberto being awful at defending and not having good enough pace, it's kinda pointless to play him there if he's not delivering on an attacking part.

Maybe when he coaches a team talent filled as Barcelona.
Remind me again what was Valverde's reputation prior to coaching Barcelona?... Let me summarize, " He played for Fc Barcelona for 2 years, scoring 8 goals". That is all there is to write home about. His duration at Bilbao, Valencia,Villareal,Olympiacos were all failures...

Seriously???? What'd you expect a treble with those teams?

Can you please answer my question, I have no clue what exactly are you even trying to prove here. Digne is not a miracle going forward suddenly, he had 1 semidecent game. Can Semedo be better next season? Who da fck knows, I certainly hope he does, but he may as wlel end up like Digne who played less this season than last.

So maybe go back and read the stuff you're replying to me? I said Semedo will improve because he just needs to build chemistry with his team, Digne is a good example of someone who used to be clueless in attack and now seemed to know what to do with the ball. You are trying to argue about how Semedo should have shown more improvement over Digne in 2 seasons just because he has more minutes this season.

For me if Semedo can't do the job I would love for us to go for Odriozola or hope Morey ends up being the real deal.

Give him another season to see where things stand.

Sadly, in one year Odriozola won't be at Sociedad anymore. I think Madrid will go after him this summer as they need a better backup to Carvajal. We can hope that Zidane will be satisfied with using Nacho there when needed and they will concentrate more on CB (which they probably need more anyway) and star forward (Neymar, Lewa,...) signings and "forget" about Odriozola but Marca has already published a few weeks/months ago that he's a done deal. Of course they are not always right but I believe that's the case here.

That said, while I like Odriozola and think he's great offensively his defense leaves a lot to be desired. He's still young and pretty inexperienced on the top level with only 1,5 years of La Liga football behind him so he could improve that aspect of his game under a defensive coach like EV though.

He may improve, noone knows because there are also examples of players, who, no matter how much they play, just do not fit. Also Digne is such a weird example considering he had more or less 1 decent game for entire year, so bringing him as an example does not really prove anything.

Even if he never comes out of his shell offensively, he is not completely impotent going forward like a Michael Reizeger. There is no harm having one fullback who excels offensively and one which excels defensively, which we now have in Roberto and Semedo. Abidal was never great going forward, but would enable us to widen the pitch and maintain possession like Semedo does, while the other fullback has more liberties to attack (Alves then and Alba now)

With 10 men, Semedo managed to cover the whole right side against Madrid for 45 minutes. That is quite incredible.

Last point also, that you do not get many fullbacks with his pace who also are very good technically in tight spaces. Most have the first touch of Tony Adams. Shieet, just go and compare the touch of Bellerin and Semedo...

RM is the test of truth for any RB, the ultimate challenge. Semedo could stay with this team for a long, long time if he just can prevent disasters against RM.

He may peak out as playing about half the time, especially when strong defense is required, but I am still quite hopeful that he will develop to be about 2/3 as good as Alves was. Top 10 RBs in the world level. I think his progress this year has been quite good. You can be a valuable, long-term Barca player and never beat out S. Roberto.

Before Barca, he wasn't known for great defense but he's very solid in that regard. I'd say he's better than any of us expected.

Ironically, he was famous for his offensive contribution so there is hope he'll improve massively on that.

He played fantastic against Real Madrid. Strangely enough he did well against them in the pre season game in the USA and in the Spanish cup.

This guy is legit like Dembele but they need consistent game time. It's that simple. Valverde is such a coward though.

He has been utter shite this season, fuck a few decent offensive runs. People comparing his so far unfulfilled 'potential' to a prime Alves in the making should consider working for Don Balon. Such a shame though, had high hopes for him. He is as poor defensively as Messi is good offensively.
