I truly hope I am wrong, but I doubt Semedo has what it takes to make it here, or even to take the starting RB from Roberto.
This is a 24 years old RB who lives by his physical tools, he is sort of the Deulofeu or RB. He plays with his head down, he is awful in positioning both in defense and offense. He doesn't know when to dribble and when to just pass and half of his crossed he plays blindly without knowing who is actually there to get it.
His speed and stamina makes hima RB with tremendous potential. But potential is something you aren't already good at but just hopeful you will be.
Again, I hope we haven't wasted 40M on a back up RB and that he proves me wrong
Imo, nothing with happen with Semedo.
Between Roberto and Semedo, they are both average as Rbs.
Roberto is smarter, physically weaker, but he understands our play better since he is Barca's midfielder and he is more useful in attack and buildup.
Semedo is faster than Roberto and he is a natural RB.
But more or less that's it.
He is truly horrible in attacking. He can run with the ball and his only weapons are some rare solo couterattacking actions. He can't do absolutely anything from a build up play or against parked buses.
Also, against Roma and against Levante, a few times he is making those weird body-tackles when he hits an opponent really hard with his body.
Against Roma, he almost causes 2-3 penalties with that thing.
And yesterday, when he kicked the opponents, he just fell down on his ass a few times.
That is a really weird and ineffectual way of trying to tackle a player.
People often mentioning how Semedo and Dembele have a good chemistry.
Well, they do have a good chemistry when an opponent plays attacking, with a high defensive line and when we have tons of space for counters.
Then speedy Dembele and Semedo are a good pair on a right flank.
But in 90% of other matches when the opponent parks the bus, both Dembele and Semedo are more or less invisible and can't do too much without tons of space to run to.
We'll probably keep Roberto and Semedo as Rb options in the next season.
They will be equally as average in this season and then in a summer of 2019, we'll probably sell Semedo and "try" with some new kid for 2-3 years.
So, a list if getting longer.
By the summer of 2019, we'll need:
A taller Cf
A lot of new midfielders
1-2 new Cbs
A new starter RB
And if Busi will continue his fall, we'll even need a new Cdm by then.
