Nelson Semedo

A sub-par game from him. 2 goals partly his fault.

But he was still the better FB today IMO, because Alba was absolutely dogshite.

If there was a decent RB on market would sell him.

Particularly if he is rated outwith the club as he is on here could get decent fee.

Could be wrong and he may improve massively going forward but he is not a good enough defender to make up for it. Nowhere close to the Abidal comparisons that sometimes get made.

He is a better athlete than Roberto and that's where it all ends. Not that Roberto is great RB or anything.

Next season will be crucial for him.

I think he's back up material only.

He has his moments that make you think 'oh, there's a top class player there!' but most of the time his decision making and passing lets him down, that coupled with his soft and passive defending, it's hard to see him as a starter here.

That ball for their 3rd (?) goal was almost entirely his and he still managed to make a meal of it. Can anyone imagine Mascherano losing that tackle and being sent flying like Semedo was there? I certainly can't.

Should we get Odriozola and get rid of Semedo? Odriozola is being targeted by Madrid according to some reports. Personally, I would give Semedo another season.

I truly hope I am wrong, but I doubt Semedo has what it takes to make it here, or even to take the starting RB from Roberto.

This is a 24 years old RB who lives by his physical tools, he is sort of the Deulofeu or RB. He plays with his head down, he is awful in positioning both in defense and offense. He doesn't know when to dribble and when to just pass and half of his crossed he plays blindly without knowing who is actually there to get it.
His speed and stamina makes hima RB with tremendous potential. But potential is something you aren't already good at but just hopeful you will be.
Again, I hope we haven't wasted 40M on a back up RB and that he proves me wrong

Imo, nothing with happen with Semedo.

Between Roberto and Semedo, they are both average as Rbs.

Roberto is smarter, physically weaker, but he understands our play better since he is Barca's midfielder and he is more useful in attack and buildup.
Semedo is faster than Roberto and he is a natural RB.
But more or less that's it.
He is truly horrible in attacking. He can run with the ball and his only weapons are some rare solo couterattacking actions. He can't do absolutely anything from a build up play or against parked buses.
Also, against Roma and against Levante, a few times he is making those weird body-tackles when he hits an opponent really hard with his body.
Against Roma, he almost causes 2-3 penalties with that thing.
And yesterday, when he kicked the opponents, he just fell down on his ass a few times.
That is a really weird and ineffectual way of trying to tackle a player.

People often mentioning how Semedo and Dembele have a good chemistry.
Well, they do have a good chemistry when an opponent plays attacking, with a high defensive line and when we have tons of space for counters.
Then speedy Dembele and Semedo are a good pair on a right flank.
But in 90% of other matches when the opponent parks the bus, both Dembele and Semedo are more or less invisible and can't do too much without tons of space to run to.

We'll probably keep Roberto and Semedo as Rb options in the next season.
They will be equally as average in this season and then in a summer of 2019, we'll probably sell Semedo and "try" with some new kid for 2-3 years.

So, a list if getting longer.
By the summer of 2019, we'll need:
A taller Cf
A lot of new midfielders
1-2 new Cbs
A new starter RB

And if Busi will continue his fall, we'll even need a new Cdm by then.

I can only lough at some comments here. Did u actually watch the game. It was one of his weaker games but dont u see the reason for his awkward positioning?
The was the centre. Constantly someone free and he had to move in.

Name 5 actions in the whole season when he did something useful in attack.
Then, our main opponent, Real, for example, look at Marcelo.
He probably had 2000 (and five) attacking contributions in this season.

Semedo is a decent RB.
But not for Barca where you need to be a midfielder-winger RB who is creating actions all the time.
Semedo is as creative in a build up against parked buses as let's say Gomes or Paulinho.

He always get it wrong with his positioning, CB played a role but he didn't help at all. He himself was dragged so easily without understanding where he should be.
That has been the case many times this year tbf. Many times he was able to recover to his speed, but not always

Complete fuck up. Dani alves wants to join back so bring him for another season, just for mentoring this young lads and producing something in champions league. I kinda started to believe that our downfall in cl started with him leaving.

Don't want to draw a conclusion based on his first season. He had his ups and downs and I won't rate yesterday's performance in any way. One team drove to Valencia and thought of having a chilly Sunday in Valencia, already thinking of the World Cup. The other team has a new coach, was very motivated and is in form.

However, I know why I'm sceptical against players from Liga NOS. Players performing well there is not really an achievement. The league is very weak. Players from Ligue1 are way easier to integrate.

Strangly it wasnt better on the side with Alba. The whole defense was completely off including DM. So bad positioning jumpd from one to the other. Idiotic to blame a single person for this.
If he would position wrong every game valverde would be a very bad coach cause this would ve the easiest thing to fix...
