Below average really, the typical Neymar surfaced. Holding the ball for too long, trying to be cute and complicated while there's an available easy pass to create a chance, bad finishing, and losing the ball far too often due to dumb attempted dribbles. The assist was nice, nice free kick attempt and it's good that he has decent work rate, but other than that he was average at best.

Aye that 'typical Neymar' the lazy/greedy player that has more assists than anyone in CL since his debut.

Don't tell that to the folks camping here.

It was a good performance but nothing special.

It's a pity he left. I think Neymar is the only player in the World Messi would defer to. Imagine Ney taking over the playmaking role and Messi fully focusing on goalscoring.

It's more likely it'd end up like 16/17 and both of them be wasted.

It's one or the other IMO. It's not clear yet we made the wrong choice. If Ney wins the CL, then he won the deal.

Messi was ready to defer to Neymar to prevent him from leaving. I think Messi would adapt and sacrifice for a player like Neymar who he knows is good enough to replace him when he brings his A game.

How though? Neymar still would have had to run twice as much in order for compensate for Messi and Suarez?s lack of movement.

Messi doesn't have a strong vertical element to his game these days.

Neymar needs a Mbappe type break/run behind the defense to be truly effective if he's playing the playmaker role.

Last time Messi was that was 14-15, maybe 15-16.

I think it's a no brainer that from a Barca standpoint we lost a lot when Neymar left be it starting 11 quality, gameplay, or results. Back then people would vehemently argue that selling Neymar for that money can easily get us multiple world-class players who would be better than Neymar when combined, they absolutely didn't. And no matter what anyone says we could have won the CL because we lost out to Roma and Liverpool on razor-thin margins.

From Neymar's perspective, he had already won everything here and I doubt La Liga and Copa would be a motivation for him and he cared only for CL. PSG can be many things but they aren't slow and impotent in an attack like us, he always had more chance of winning it there because he would just go crazy in a team like ours. It's hardwired as fuck inside him to attack, he just can't play conservative and it would have been a very incompatible pairing with us. He could easily lose against Bayern, but that wouldn't mean PSG did not have more chances of CL than us.

Not to mention that he wanted a challenge, except for the money, and that was also one of his main motivation to go to PSG that people usually don't stress upon as it makes perfect sense considering his predicament.
