Based on what?? Do you actually think Messi doesn't care about these awards enough?? He absolutely loves and wants those awards just as much as Ronaldo. It's a PR thing to show he doesn't care and is just a genius who happens to win them.
This is a fact. At Barca he was never getting it as long as Messi was there. He would always be the second fiddle to Messi.

Don't wanna sound mean but that benevolence angle is bollocks. Neymar knows Messi as a person way better than you and I do and he had understood that to win these things he had to move to another team.

No no, i don't think he is that nice. It would just seem acceptable to him that they would together win at least 2 or 3 more CLs, score several hundred goals and get multiple trophies and awards and one of the next 3 Ballons could be given to Neymar, if he, say, scores the most goals in a calendar year, while showing his great skills on the ball, while being on his peak. Mesi could have the other two and lots of records broken even further and a LOT more trophies than he got in our scenario. The international football communities and media would probably also press to have him at least that one Ballon just like Xavi and Iniesta could have at least one, if not for insane peak Messi/Ronaldo dominance at the time. With the team like PSG he was destined to decline fast. he ain't no leader himself and Barca (with him) was at least two magnitudes stronger than PSG. It's easier to get major individual awards, while playing for trophy winning major club and shine. Simple.

let's be honest Gniddy, with Messi in team Ney wouldnt have won a ballon dor. 18-19 Messi was too good. In 17-18 Messi was top as well beside the Roma disaster, if barca would have won the cl Messi would have been ballon dor winner.

I'm not sure I agree with all of you saying going to PSG is a career killer. Neymar went to claim the lead spot of a project, which PSG provided. He was severely hurt and slowed down by injuries. They also got some results in Europe and one could argue were quite unlucky not to win it.

Injuries might've not happened at Barca due to the nature of the league but that's a stretch. Easy to say now he was sure to fail but don't think that's that simple or obvious.

He made a mistake and he regrets it every day I bet. But saying he retired after signing for Qataris is wrong. He played great for a good while.
If he declined/declines it's nothing surprising. Many do after they reach 30.

Laporta been mulling over Lewandowski you think he wouldn’t think about returning Neymar come on. I too think it won’t happen but he had to think about it.

Well let's hope and Laporta doesn't make the same mistake in trying to negotiate with PSG, ever. Even if we leave everything about Neymar (cost, age, injuries) aside: contract until 2025 = not possible.

Getting Lewandowski was at least somewhat realistic due to the contract until 2023.
