Pedro Rodriguez

He is under the radar in some qualities though. I've always thought that in terms of sheer technique, touch, and footwork Pedro is one of the top 3 in the team. However, he doesn't have the mentality that truly special players have to use his qualities to shine and dominate as an individual.

Pedro has been groomed as a team player- specifically, a Messi-centric team player. For one whole season, he was basically instructed to hug the touchline, so he did what he was told. He really has never been asked to be other than a team player. In the Messi era, until Tata, every forward brought into the team has been instructed to become less individual and more team/Messi oriented- Ibra, Villa, Sanchez have all been asked to sacrifice individuality in the past. Even Neymar started out more timid.

Tata apparently has opened the door to a bit more "anarchic" attack. The outsiders like Neymar and Sanchez thus are reverting to their more natural instincts. Pedro may do fine remaining the ultimate team player that he is, or he may also start stepping outside those lines, albeit that has not been his grooming. It may take awhile for him to adapt to being more individualistic, just as it takes time for a Neymar or Sanchez to adapt to being less so.

Very well, typical. Patrolling the wings casually, and always making great diagonal quick runs in behind the defenders on their blind side. His finish off a short cross in from Montoya was buried, keeper had no chance. Second half, Cartagena bunkered down even more (5-4-1), and the rest of the bench Barça team wasn't up to unlocking the tight space until Iniesta subbed on.

Didn't have to do much defensively, as Cartagena rarely saw the ball.

Oh, God. Not that BS again. Just ban the troll, please.

That was with Ronaldinho

In the 12/13 season, Pedro had 7 goals & 6 assists in La Liga, 9 & 2 playing for Spain.
In his first season for Barcelona, he had 22 goals and 4 assists.
But yeah, his role for Barca (what he's instructed to do) hasn't changed, he just began to suck horribly and has continued to start for what have been among the most dominant club & national teams ever.

Imo Pedro is improving this season again, he takes on players and scores + he always works his ass of, something that can't always be said about the rest of the team. Neymar-Messi-Sanchez should be our starting trio, no doubt. But I don't feel we loose that much playing let's say Pedro-Messi-Sanchez than if we play Song on DM or CM. Beside, just like you said before, when Pedro plays LW than Iniesta has a more free role.

Not necessarily. Sanchez is probably the better choice when Tata is being more "anarchic" and there is less link-up play on the team, and players are more isolated and further from each other. But Pedro is still the most intelligent forward and is brilliant at positioning and close passing, seeing what's happening, and doing what the teams needs. Though Alexis has greatly improved, Pedro is still just as good (if not better) a choice for a more controlled game.

And, as far as working his ass off, people often see the defensive work, but they don't often note his work on offense off the ball to provide options, drag defenders, and support his teammates (one of the reasons I really love Pedro). This was at the end (90') of the Villarreal game. Neymar either had his head down, or was simply being more selfish at that moment, now that he finally had some space with Villarreal pushed up. Had Pedro received an early pass, he most likely would have slipped the ball through to the streaking Roberto with a delicate wall pass. By the time Neymar had carried the ball closer, Pedro pointed out to Neymar the pass to Roberto, since he knew he was no longer in an advantageous position (which Roberto brilliantly returned to Neymar, who hit the crossbar).

P.S. This was the only successful take-on (of 11 attempts) by Neymar during the game, 1v1 with Villarreal pushed up.
