Well, this was never going to be an easy choice between him & Alexis - I honestly had gone back & forth before finally settling on keeping Sanchez

I can understand why Lucho would do this too, preferring Pedro who's a cantera player...Nothing perhaps against Sanchez in the end though as they needed to move at least one wide player...Just think we're going with heart over talent here...Pedro is much better than Oleguer but Sanchez suffers from being able to bring more money in a sale

I'm confused. You meant Deulofeu, perhaps?

I just meant Oleguer probably would've been replaced were he not cantera & Catalan. It's a Catalan club and there should be every effort to incorporate cantera players into the squad - in principle. But only up to a point, then you have to go with the foreign player over the homegrown when there's the gap there is between Alexis & Pedro, IMO

I like the cantera philosophy, especially for Barcelona, but this is one time I think they should've gone with Alexis over Pedro

You have to remember though, Alexis might not accept the bench whereas Pedro would do so. Still, I think Pedro staying beats Pedro and Sanchez leaving with Nolito coming back.

Oh, I get it now.

I agree, I just don't think this is the particular case where they should go the other way.

If Zubi's statement that Pedro is not for sale isn't just a trick for getting more money out of him, I think Alexis is on the verge of leaving which isn't the best news for me.
If I'd have to keep one of the two it wouldn't be Pedro but I guess even this board knows very well Alexis is worth more and their strategy relies on this fact which might not be that bad if indeed we can ship Alexis to LFC at a good price in exchange for Suarez.

Alexis is better than him and will probably increase the gap as time goes by. It's so shit that at this point Alexis leaving is a certainty.

That being said, I still believe that Pedro is a quality player and can play an important role at Barca. He's far from a terrible player like most people on here make him out to be. He's the kind of player who needs a coach that can give him confidence, hopefully Lucho will be able to bring the best out of him like Pep did.

Who do you prefer on the bench the whole season, Alexis (who doesn't want to and is too good for that) or Pedro (who is OK, but doesn't really mind that)?

Sell Pedro and keep Sanchez, forget Suarez and spend the damn money on a high profile CB or two, strengthen the midfield if Xavi decide to leave

Pedro: "It's a pity captains like Puyol or Valdes leave. Squad is being renewed, many changes, which could be good for the team." [tv3]

Pedro: "Zubizarreta saying I'm not for sale? They were nice words, I'm calmer now. Main thing is that I keep working hard, as I always do."

Ten years ago FC Barcelona signed a player who has achieved glory in the game, coming up through the ranks. Pedro Rodriguez, the current Barça number 7, came to Barcelona from his hometown,Tenerife. He left CD San Isidro to join the Barça U18 A team at age 17, and soon made a name for himself in the youth ranks of the club.

Climbing the ladder to the first team

After playing for the U18’s A team and Barça C, Pedro consolidated his place in the Barça B team. In the 2007/08 season he achieved promotion to the Second Division B under the leadership of Pep Guardiola. That year he also debuted with the first team: Frank Rijkaard picked him to play in two league games at the Camp Nou. The following season, with Guardiola now in charge of the first team, Pedro began to play matches, taking part in a total of 14 games. Finally, in the summer of 2009, Pedro signed his first contract as a first team player
So, in just five years, Pedro went from playing for San Isidro, in Tenerife, to the Barça first team. That first season Pedro also made history: he became the first footballer to score in six different official competitions, la Liga, Spanish Cup, Champions League, Spanish Super Cup, European Super Cup, and World Club Championship. He was, in fact, the revelation of that particular season..

Consolidation at the top level

Since then Pedro’s career has just kept on flourishing. He became fully consolidated in the first team and became one of Barça’s main strikers. Between 2009 and 2014, Pedro has scored 87 official goals for Barça in a total of 253 games. In his ten years at the Club he’s won every title possible: 4 League titles, 2 Champions Leagues, 2 Spanish Cups, two European Super Cups, four Spanish Super Cups and two World Club Championship trophies.
Aside from Barça, Pedro has also become an important player in the Spanish National team. After making his debut on 29th of May 2010, he won the World Cup in South Africa that same year, and the European Championships in 2012, in Poland and the Ukraine

Congrats to him :)
